Coaching Staff
Jeritt Brink Head Coach

Born and raised on Okanagan Lake in Vernon, BC, Jeritt describes himself as a swimmer first and has been open water swimming since the age of five.  His coaching philosophy is “Speed thru Endurance and that power and speed will come naturally as a swimmer develops.  He is keen on “realistic and targeted goal setting” and visualization pre-race.   Coach Jeritt is a continuous learner and credits much of his knowledge and experience to his valued mentors.

Fun Facts about Coach Jeritt!

  • His Australian and New Zealand cousins taught him proper open turns on a trash bucket full of rocks.

  • One of his biggest accomplishments was swimming 16 km (one way and back swim) in Whitsunday Islands, Australia.

  • He loves Triathlon and Tri tech for swimming!

  • He currently coaches Jason Pohl, one of Canada’s top  Ironman athletes.

  • Coach Jeritt is a butterflyer and mid to long distance freestlyer (although his backstroke was wicked too!)

  • Breaststroke is his favourite stroke to teach – so prepare to learn how to really embrace the art of fly and breast stroke!

  • He is a huge fan of F1, Star Wars and Bruce Lee!

Kim Norris Coach

As a swimmer of the Fort McMurray Swim Club at its inception and for many years, there is a big place in my heart for the clubs continued success and accomplishment.

I was blessed with great coaches when I swam to National level and am so excited to be coaching the Blue and Yellow Mantas this year and being able to mentor another season of coaches and swimmers.

My philosophy is to coach swimmers to have fun as they work and play in a fair manner, to help them set and work hard to achieve challenging goals, and to do THEIR best and be THEIR best in everything they do.

Jo Young MANTA Swim School Coordinator

Coach Jo is our Swim School coordinator.  No stranger to the pool, she was a competitive swimmer for 12 years and her favorite race was the 200 fly!!! She then went on to coach for 20 years in Kitimat, BC prior to moving to Fort McMurray.   Coach Jo passed on her love for swimming to her children, with all 3 children participating in competitive swimming, one at the national level.  Coach Jo is well versed in the life of a swimming parent!!

Coach Jo's goal for the Swim School program is to inspire in all the kids a great love for the sport of swimming.  But not just the sport.......... also the sportsmanship, teamplay and the friendships that will last for years.  Lessons learned in the pool can be put into your every day life.  You can succeed at anything you try, it only takes a little hard work and its a lot of fun along the way.

Coach Jo can't wait to get to know all of her little swimmers again this year.

Shiloh Helberg Coach

Fort McMurray Swim Club has been a part of my life since I was four. I swam at a provincial level until I was 16 and then switched entirely to coaching.

Competitive swimming has always been a passion and an escape for me, and I hope every day to provide the same safe and exciting space for the kids I coach. When I was eleven the club reintroduced its swim school program. I couldn't wait till the day I turned twelve and was able to assist with coaching; I didn't even know I was getting paid until my coach at the time mentioned the pocket money I would be collecting!

Since then, I've been carrying that same passion and love for their kids and their energy. Over the years I've built my coaching toolbox with mentorship from my own coaches and from the coaches that have come since I stopped swimming. I was certified with my NCCP level 1 in 2018 and am currently working to complete my level 2 portfolio.

I believe very strongly in the spirit of the team and really think that swimming is a sport that stays with you for life. I hope that I can share my love for the sport along with my technical knowledge.

See you at the pool!

Gwyneth Norris Coach

Hii, my name is Coach Gwyneth. I swam competitively for 4 years with the Fort McMurray Swim Club and I enjoyed swim so much that I wanted to share my passion with everyone else.

I have worked with lots of different age groups from 5 year olds to 12 year olds. Swimming is such a great sport to be involved in. It teaches you so much about team work, discipline, strength, endurance, and achieving high goals.

It’s an honour to be part of the swim club and amazing to be able to watch swimmers grow, progress and achieve the goals that they hoped for.
