CLUB INFORMATION

Markham Aquatic Club (MAC) is a non-profit, inclusive volunteer-based swim club, with over 300 swimmers in nine different training groups. At capacity, we train up to 500 swimmers at pools throughout Markham, including the 10 lane, 50-metre Markham Pan Am Centre pool and several modern 8-lane and 6-lane 25-metre pools. MAC swimmers compete at swim meets and team travel events during the competitive season.

MAC's professional coaching staff are among the best in Canada. Each swimmer's progression is carefully crafted based on individual strengths and abilities, providing the structure and environment to advance at their optimal rate.

MAC is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, paid Coaches and a paid club adminstrator. Every MAC family has at least one family member volunteering, from swim meet officiating to serving on our Board and committees. MAC organizes annual fundraisers and social activities. We also host swim meets and provincial championship meets, and we operate popular swim camps.

MAC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. With roots stemming from the 1960’s, Swim Ontario officially recognized as a competitive swim club in 1973. By 1993, the club had captured its first National Age Group title. Today, we are the team to beat in Ontario and a dominant force in Canadian swimming. MAC swimmers are registered members of Swimming Canada.

MAC has a deep connection to the City of Markham and we participate and give back to our community. We also proudly foster a sense of "family". Older swimmers interact with younger ones at social events like our annual awards banquet, seasonal parties, holiday parades and summer fun days. Our athletes also enjoy at least one team travel opportunity to compete each season. MAC swimmers build friendships that last a lifetime.

After an assessment, our youngest swimmers usually enter our introduction to competitive swimming program named Olympic Prospects (OP). This program is an excellent gateway to our competitive age-group development programs: Top Age Group, JAG, Bronze, Bantam, Junior and Senior. MAC Swimmers first learn to train, then train to train and advance into training to compete at the elite level. As they develop proficiency in the physical, technical-tactical, mental and emotional aspects of competitive swimming, MAC's Senior and Varsity swimmers are well equipped to handle the rigorous training and increased commitment to compete at National and International levels. OUR VISION

MAC’s vision is to be the premier swim club for competitive swimming in Canada.

CORE PRINCIPLES

The principles by which we operate are:

Our Swimmers

First and foremost, every decision made by the Club is based on the impact to the swimmers.  The swimmers are the most important component of the Club and as such, our time, attention and resources are focused on delivering excellent swim training programs for our swimmers.

Inclusive and welcoming, we strive to inspire and enable our swimmers to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life while creating an environment where excellence is inevitable and fun!

Our Coaches

The Club values the knowledge and dedication of each coach.  Coaches will have a safe and enjoyable environment in which to work.  Coaches should have the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach and the freedom to make decisions and be accountable for the outcomes.

Our Officials

As a member of the swimming community we take pride in contributing to the sport by ensuring that we have well trained officials not only for our own meets, but for other clubs’ meets when called upon.

Our Members

As members we recognize our role is to support the swimmers, coaches, and Club in any way possible.  As a volunteer run organization the Club’s success is directly linked to the volunteering efforts of the members.

As not-for-profit, member-run organization we strive to provide value to our members, transparency of operations, proper governance, and the ability for any member to assist with the direction and operation of the Club.

Our Community

We aim to have a positive impact on our community by representing the City of Markham to the best of our ability both in and out of the water.
