LASC Fall Challenge

31 Waves swimmers travelled to Lethbridge this past weekend to race at their first swim meet of the 2022/2023 swim season.  The LASC Fall Challenge is always our first meet and is a really fun meet to start of a season.

Here are all the results:

Girls 10 & Under

Olivia Willberg (10) - 100 back, 11th; 50 breast, 14th; 100 free, 19th; 50 free, 21st.

*This was Olivia's first swim meet, and she raced like a pro. Olivia acheived 4 new best times this weekend*

Hazel Vossler (10) - 50 free, 23rd; 100 free, 25th.

*This was Hazel's first out of town swim meet & I had hew swim new events.  She raced so well, and got new best times in 2 events*

Isabel Miller (9) - 100 IM, third; 200 free, fourth; 100 breast, sixth; 50 fly, sixth; 50 free, ninth; 100 free, 11th; 50 back, 11th.

*Isabel had an amazing swim meet, winning a bronze medal in 100 IM, and she acheived 7 new best times, and is very close to Festival Time Standards in many events*

Marsha van der Merwe (7) - 50 breast, 18th; 100 free, 24th; 50 free, 27th; 50 back 27th.

*Marsha swam so well this weekend, she swam 4 new best times this weekend. Marsha has such great technique for such a young swimmer*

Campbell Kletzel (7) - 50 back, 23rd; 100 free, 28th.

*Coach Campbell was back on deck again this weekend, she is not just a swimmer but loves to help at the Coaches table to help us say on track. Campbell swam with all her heart and acheived 2 new best times this weekend*

Lucy Pattison (6) - 50 breast, 19th; 50 back, 28th; 50 free, 28th; 100 free, 29th.

*What a weekend for Lucy! Her races were all fantastic, everyone loved her very creative yet totally legal flip turn in the 50 back. It made my weekend.  Lucy had a perfect swim meet, 4 races, 4 best times, no DQ's and a really fun relay. Great job Lucy!

Boys 10 & Under

Elijah Hooke (10) - 50 breast, first; 200 breast, first; 100 breast, third; 200 free, third; 50 free, fifth; 100 free, fifth.

*Eli had an excellent meet, winning 2 gold and 1 bronze medal and acheiving best times in every event.  More important than the medals he won, is the confidence he is gaining as he trys new events. Great swimming Eli, very proud of you*

Connor Tweten (9) - 50 breast, third; 200 free, sixth; 50 back, 17th; 100 free, 17th; 50 free, 19th.

*Connor impressed me so much this weekend with not just his races but with his listening skills. Connor won a bronze medal in the 50 breast and swam 5 new best times this weekend. Well done Connor!

Ryes Pattison (8) - 50 breast, eighth; 100 breast, ninth; 50 back, 19th; 50 free, 20th; 100 free, 20th.

*Ryes is a great listener, always knows his heat and lane and always has his cap and goggles ready. I found out this weekend just how much he loves breaststroke and it shows. Ryes acheived 5 new best times this weekend, mostly because he trains so hard, but he also just loves to race*

Wyatt Hooke (8) - 50 breast, seventh; 100 IM, ninth; 50 free, 10th; 50 back, 11th; 100 free, 13th.

*Wyatt was worried about a few events going into this meet, but he worked hard at practice and raced each event at the meet so well. I was very impressed with his 50 back turn and that was his biggest fear. Great job swimming 4 new best times this weekend.

Rixtonn Biffart (8) - 50 fly, eighth; 100 IM, 10th; 50 back, 13th; 50 free, 17th; 100 free, 18th.

*Rixtonn had some great races this weekend, he even swam 2 of his races without goggles but he powered through both times. Racing like that he is going to catch his big sister in no time. Well done Rixtonn on 4 new best times at this meet*

Caleb Martin (7) - 50 breast, fifth; 200 free, fifth; 100 IM, eighth; 50 free, ninth; 100 free, 11th; 50 back, 14th.

*Caleb is a very fast swimmer for his age but not just in a 25 or a 50, he showed me that he can swim a 200 no problem. Caleb acheived 6 new best times this weekend and only had one little oopsie. Great swimming Caleb, keep bringing your love of speed to the pool everyday!*

Girls 11-12

Isabel Unreiner (12) - 200 breast, fifth; 50 breast, eighth; 50 free, 13th; 200 free, 13th; 100 free, 16th; 100 breast, 20th 100 IM, 21st; 50 back, 22nd.

*Isabel had a perfect swim meet, 8 swims, 8 best times. She also swam 3 relays and she was still smiling at the end of the meet. Isabel loves her teammates and she loves to help me out with organizing all the younger kids. She showed great leadership and team spirit at this meet along with swimming fast*

Katie Ross (12) - 400 free, fourth; 200 free, 10th; 50 breast, 13th; 100 free, 14th; 50 free, 17th; 50 back, 17th; 100 breast, 18th; 100 IM, 23rd.

*Katie is a very powerful swimmer and she is starting to learn how that power can turn into fast swimming and longer distance swimming.  Katie tried a 400 for the first time and she had an excellent swim.  Katie also swam 7 other events acheiving best times in all.  She also swam on 3 relays this weekend.

McKenna Lux (12) - 50 breast, 19th; 100 back, 21st; 100 free, 33rd, 100 breast, 33rd; 50 free, 37th.

*McKenna has been one of the hardest working kids at practice this past month, she is always wanting to improve. At this meet she really impressed me, swimming 5 new best times. She took off 40s in her 100 back and 30s off her 100 free since May. Keep working hard girl!*

 Elizabeth Humphreys (12) - 50 breast, 10th; 50 fly, 16th; 100 breast, 17th; 50 free, 28th; 100 IM, 29th; 100 free, 29th.

*Elizabeth acheived best times this weekend in all of her events. She has been working very hard along side all of her Jr teammates at practice but she really likes to race them at meets.  They really drive her to become a faster swimmer. Well done Elizabeth.*

Maja Kolodziej (11) - 200 breast, fourth; 50 breast, 15th; 100 breast, 16th; 200 free, 17th; 100 free, 27th; 50 back, 32nd; 50 free, 33rd.

*Maja swam 8 events and also achieved 8 best times. She was also on 3 relay teams at this meet.  Maja takes training very seriously and enjoys racing her friends. I was very impressed with her 100 IM in which she took off close to 18s. Keep up the hard work Maja.*

Sophie Baht (11) - 50 breast, seventh; 100 breast, 12th; 50 fly, 19th; 100 free, 24th; 100 IM, 27th; 50 free, 30th.

*Sophie is new to Waves, but you can't tell. She fits right in and is a terrifc teammate to have. She is friends with everyone and is a ton of fun but she is also a terrific swimmer. Sophie achieved best times in all 6 of her individual events and she also participated in 3 relays.*

Aadya Kathait (11) - 50 breast, 18th; 50 fly, 25th; 100 free, 35th; 100 IM, 35th; 50 free, 36th.

*Aadya swam very well this weekend, acheiving best times in all events. She took off 17s in her 50m breaststroke since last Spring.  Aadya is a great teammate to have on deck at a swim meet, as she is lots of fun.  Great swimming Aadya!*

Boys 11 - 12

Owen Gracie (12) - 100 breast, 15th; 100 IM, 17th; 100 free, 19th.

*Owen is new to competitive swimming and he had to learn a lot in a short period of time. He raced so well this weekend, only a couple of small waves to overcome. Owen really likes racing, and is a great addition to our swim club. Keep working hard Owen.*

Jonathan Miller (11) - 200 free, 14th; 50 breast, 14th; 100 IM, 20th; 100 breast, 22nd; 50 free, 23rd; 50 fly, 23rd; 100 free, 24th; 50 back, 27th.

*Jon swam 3 best times this weekend, but he knows deep down he could have had more.  Swimming is hard work and training is not always fun.  Being fast and improving doesn't come easy but is rewarding. I believe in you Jon and I have a feeling the next meet will be a better one*

Owen Hughes (11) - 50 breast, 15th; 100 back, 16th; 50 free, 29th; 50 back, 30th; 100 free, 32nd.

*Owen had an excellent swim meet, racing 5 events and acheiving all new best times.  He has been working hard at practice to improve all his strokes, and now I just need to get him to do flip turns. Just imagine Owen how fast you can be!  Keep up the great swimming kiddo!*

Girls 13-14

Rowynn Biffart (14) - 100 fly, first; 50 breast, first; 100 breast, first; 200 breast, first; 100 IM, first; 200 back, second; 100 free, second; 200 free, third.

*Congrats to Rowynn on 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.  Rowynn also acheived another Western Qualifying time at thist meet. She is starting the season off very strong, her underwater swimming is absolutely amazing to watch. Swimming like this takes a lot of hard work, dedication and love of the sport, and Rowynn really loves this sport. Well done Rowynn!

Keira Leclair (14) - 200 breast, eighth; 200 free, 19th; 50 fly, 23rd; 100 breast, 23rd; 50 back, 30th; 50 free, 32nd.

*This wasn't Keira's best meet ever, but she did swim some events that she didn't think she would be able to race.She had a great 200 free, in which she achieved a new best time. Keep at it Keira, you are a great swimmer and we believe in you*

Boys 13-14

Kage Senft (14) - 200 free, first; 400 free, first; 50 free, second; 100 free, second; 50 fly, second; 100 fly, second; 100 IM, second; 100 breast, third.

*Congrats to Kage on winning 2 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medal. Kage had an excellent start to his swim season, acheiving best times in each of his events. He had an amazing 400 free in which he took off 27s since last short course season.  Kage has been working so hard at each and every practice, and it is really paying off. Great racing Kage!*

William Miller (14) - 200 back, first; 100 back, second; 50 back, second; 400 free, second; 100 free, third; 200 free, third; 50 free, fifth; 50 fly, sixth.

*Congrats to Will on winning 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 silver medals this weekend. Will has improved so much since last short course season. He achieved 8 new personal best times this weekend.  Will has been training very hard and it shows.  looking forward to watching you race hard all year.*

Kaden Goffinet (14) -50 breast, third; 400 free, fourth; 100 breast, fifth; 200 free, fifth; 50 back, sixth; 100 free, ninth; 50 free, ninth.

*Congrats to Kaden on winning a bronze medal in the 50 breast. Kaden is another swimmer that has taken off load of times in all his events since last short course season.  Keep up all the hard work Kaden, it is really paying off*

Matthew Daley (14) - 50 breast, second; 100 breast, seventh; 100 IM, ninth; 50 fly, ninth; 50 free, 12th; 100 free, 13th.

*Congrats to Matthew on winning a silver medal in 50 breast. Matthew is new to our swim club as well. He is training hard an learning a lot about his strokes and racing. Keeo up the hard work Matthew!*

Girls 15-17

Isabella Middleton (16) -50 breast, 12th; 100 breast 12th; 200 free, 13th; 50 back, 14th; 100 IM, 15th; 50 fly, 18th, 50 free, 21st, 100 free, 22nd.

*Izzy didn't see the results that she wanted to this weekend but she raced very well.  She has been battling sickness so far this fall, so hopefully more time in the water now that she is healthy will give her the results she'd like at the next meet. Keep working hard Izzy, you got this!*

Boys 15-17

Karsten Senft (17) - 200 free, second; 400 free, second; 100 free, third; 200 back, third; 50 free, sixth; 50 back, ninth; 50 fly, 10th; 100 IM, 10th.

*Karsten had an excellent meet, collecting 2 silver and 2 bronze medals as well as 7 new personal best short course times.  I haven't seen Karsten work this hard or love this sport like this since he was a little kid.  I am so happy to see him racing as well as he is. Well done Karsten*

William Smith (15) - 200 breast, sixth; 200 free, 11th; 100 breast, 12th; 50 breast, 13th; 50 back, 14th; 100 IM, 16th; 100 free, 19th; 50 free, 20th.

*I think Will took off more time than anyone else at this meet. He acheived best times in all 8 events.  Will has been very dedicated to coming to practice and dryland training. He has been working so hard and it really shows.  Excellent swimming Will*

 

Well done everyone!  We are excited to see you racing again in November!
