Coaches and Directors
Coach Sean has been involved with swimming since 1980 and is starting his third year as Head Coach of The Waves.
Sean grew up in the Edmonton area where he swam competitively at provincial, national and university levels. He started coaching with the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club in 1993 before graduating university in 1996 to become a member of the RCMP. Coach Sean retired from the RCMP in 2023 but was able to pursue his love of coaching during his 26 year career, where he coached with summer and winter clubs in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
A certified NCCP Level 2 coach, Sean has coached swimmers to provincial records and many swimmers to Provincial Trials and Provincial Championships. Sean also has been a swimming official, a parent and board member, and brings a holistic vision to his coaching as someone who understands the importance of everyone's role in a swim club.
Sean's philosophy of coaching is the idea of the club being greater than the sum of its parts, meaning that everyone grows and develops within the club at their own time and at their own pace, but functions together to bring out the best in everyone. One of Sean's favourite sayings is "It's not just about swimming.", as he prefers to coach the person, not just the athlete.
Sean's nephew, Reid Maxwell, is currently on the National Swim Team as a Paralympic Swimmer who attended the Paralympics in Paris, France in 2024, where he won a silver medal in the 400 Freestyle.
In his spare time, Sean still swims and plays accordion.

She started her love for the swimming at a young age however did not have the opprotunity to compete. Nicole became a lifeguard and instructor to continue her love of the water. You could say that her husband was the one that got her competing. She did not compete as a swimmer until she was 24 years old once she joined a Mater Club in Weyburn, Saskatchewan which was started by her husband. Togehter, they would compete in Maters Swim Meets all over the country.
In the past, she has coached Weyburn & Swift Current Master Swim Clubs, coached with the Swift Current Stingrays and Medicine Hat Hurricanes Summer Clubs and coached with the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club. Coach Nicole's main focus is coaching the fundamentals of swimming and can't wait to be in the water with the kids.
Coach Nicole and her family have lived in Medicne area since 2009 and her main job is being a mom of three. All of their kids are involved in many activites like swimming, soccer, school sports, just to name a few. If the Miller Family is not at a pool or soccer field you can find them in Fernie, BC biking, hiking or skiing.
Coach Nicole is looking forward to helping kids love the sport of swimming as much as she does. See you all at the pool!!!
