Fernie Fall Blast Swim Meet Results - Nov 1-3rd 2024

Our first swim meet of the 2024-2024 season is complete. 17 Waves swimmers attended the Remax Fernie Fall Blast this past weekend and they all had an amazing 2 days in and out of the pool.  This swim meet had an exhibition relay with 8 swimmers. We entered 2 relays, a boy and a girl relay.  It was one of many highlights of this weekend, having the older kids get to swim with our younger swimmers which was a great team bonding event.  Boys relay went a 5:52.23 and the girls a 5:51.27, really evenly split teams. Our new club mascot, Walter, made the trip to Fernie and cheered the swimmers on to 77 personal best times, 3 Provincial Trial Times, and 7 club records.  Below are more details on individual results.

Individual Results

12 & Under Age Group

This was a hard age group being 12 & Under, we made sure that it was not about placing in this age group but all about how well they swam their races.

Ellis Anstey(7) M

100 BK - 2:06.86 (PB), 21st     50 FR - 56.20 (PB), 42nd    50 BK - 56.14 (PB), 34th

100 FR - 1:56.87(PB), 39th    50 BR - 1:13.10 (PB), 35th

What an amazing first swim meet for Ellis with the Medicine Hat Waves.  Ellis joined us after swimming with the Manta Ray Summer Club this summer.  At this swim meet he swam longer distances than he has done before.  He was very attentive and asked great questions about each swim when we went through race plans before each race.  You can definitely see how much he loves to race. Congratulations on your 4 club records Ellis! Keep up the good work!

Quinn Baht (9) F

50 FL - 48.92 (PB), 22nd    100 BK - 1:39.76 (PB), 16th    50 FR - 40.21 (PB), 36th

50 BK - 43.82 (PB), 15th    100 FR - 1:29.39 (PB), 31st    50 BR - 53.48 (PB), 28th

Quinn had an absolutely stellar weekend! Making personal bests in all her races and absolutely destroying her old times. All of her swims were also swam incredibly well and she looked confident and strong throughout the weekend. And despite her swim off unfortunately not being needed for finals she still absolutely crushed it! Winning it by an incredible 0.02 seconds and making a new best time on top of her time from that morning. Way to go Quinn!!

Aria Carr (8) F

100 BK - 2:13.24 (PB), 50th    50 FR - 57.52 (PB), 81st    100 BR - 2:39.92 (PB), 41st

50 BK - 1:03.14 (PB), 70th    100 FR - 2:16.74 (PB), 78th

This was Aria’s first swim meet with our club as well.  Aria swam with our Splash Swim School last year and also with the Manta Ray Summer Club this past summer.  She has been working hard at practice and you can tell in her races.  Aria swam new races that she had not swam before and stepped out of her comfort zone where she handled it really well.  Great job Aria, keep working hard and you will keep seeing in your races.

Axton Carr (6) M

100 BK - 2:23.43 (PB), 27th    50 FR - 1:08.02 (PB), 49th    50 BK - 1:02.29 (PB), 40th

100 FR - 2:18.25 (PB), 45th

Axton had an amazing first meet of the season with our swim club.  Axton received personal bests in all his times and got to swim in races he had not swam in before.  He also took in the whole experience. During warm up while the team was practicing dives, he wanted to stay by the ledge and watch the older kids dive underwater.  It was awesome to see him observing and learning.  Axton also broke 2 club records for his age as well.  Job well done!!

Connor Donnelly (10) M

100 BK - 1:56.45 (PB), 18th    50 FR - 54.14 (PB), 40th    50 BK - 53.41 (PB), 27th

100 FR - 2:04.67 (PB), 41st

This is Connor’s first year in our competitive groups, last year he swam with our Splash Swim School and tried his first meet at the Dino Cup in Calgary, which it got him hooked on swimming.  Connor got all personal best times in all his races. The best moment in this meet for Connor was when he volunteered to swim in the relay event with the Fernie Club so that they would have enough swimmers for their relay and it would also let everyone in our team be able to participate in the relay as well.  We are so proud of you Connor for stepping out of your comfort zone to put yourself out there in new experiences.

Markus Fanning (10) M

100 BK - 1:55.38 (PB), 16th    50 FR - 49.87 (PB), 34th    50 BK - 52.46 (PB), 25th

100 FR - 1:54.84

It was great to have so many kids at their first meet ever this weekend.  Markus was also one of them.  He was nervous and had lots of questions about all of it.  He did really well with asking really good questions and listening to what to focus on in each race.  By the end of the meet he was able to take a leadership role and take direction in helping his teammates to be at the marshalling area in time. Great work Markus, keep up the good work.

Isabel Miller (11) F

50 FL - 38.57 (PB), 6th        50 FR - 35.27 (PB), 15th    100 BR - 1:37.33 (PB), 6th

200 IM - 3:12.81 (PB), 12th    100 FR - 1:18.13 (PB), 12th    50 BR - 45.72 (PB), 7th

A spectacular weekend for Isa! She had best times in all her races and absolutely killed it in all of them. Her 100 free was a treat to watch as she pulled ahead in her 3rd 25 and ended up going under 1:20 as we had discussed before her race. Isa was an absolute rockstar to have around the pool, always cheering on her teammates, discussing and following up on her race plans we talked about and being a social butterfly with the other teams. Your hard work in practice is paying off Isa, keep it up!

Zoe Peterson (8) F

100 BK - 2:05.27 (PB), 43rd    50 FR- 54.73 (PB), 72rd    50 BK - 1:01.39 (PB), 66th

100 FR - 2:02.02 (PB), 64th

What a weekend for Zoe!! She had personal bests in all of her races but not just by little bit.  She took huge chunks of time off her 100 M races, the biggest being 36.20 seconds in her 100 Free. WOW!  She has been working really hard at practice and you can see if come all together in practice.  Zoe you are always a joy to have on deck cheering on her teammates when they are swimming and always ready to race!

Avery Tweten (7) F

100 BK - 2:18.32 (PB), 51st    50 FR - 1:00.64 (PB), 84th    50 BK - 1:01.45 (PB), 67th

100 FR - 2:18.62 (PB), 80th    50 BR - 1:22.91 (PB), 71st

Avery had a ton of smiles at this swim meet and rightfully so, getting 5 best times.  Avery's biggests drops were in her 100M races where you see her endurance has increased since last season. She dropped over 11 seconds in her 100 Back and over 13 seconds in her 100 Free. She loves being at the pool and has so much fun with her teammates.  A happy swimmer is a fast swimmer and Avery is always happy!! Keep up the great work Avery!

Connor Tweten (11) M

200 FR - 3:04.87 (PB), 4th    50 FR - 39.30 (PB), 17th    100 BR - 1:43.74 (PB), 1st

200 IM: - 3:24.87(PB), 3rd    100 FR - 1:27.76 (PB), 15th    50 BR - 50.13 (PB), 5th

Connor has been absolutely crushing it as of late! This weekend saw fantastic swims for Connor as well as all new personal best times. Connor is a force to be reckoned with in the pool as he is constantly pushing himself and puts himself out of his comfort zone. This weekend saw Connors second ever 200 IM which he didn’t only crush time wise, taking a huge chunk off from his previous swim this past spring at dino cup. He also crushed it technique wise, highlighting the incredible amount of work he has been putting into practice. Fantastic work Connor, we can’t wait to see you grow this season!

Oliver Tweten (9) M

100 BK - 1:54.48 (PB), 14th    50 FR - 46.73 (PB), 30th    100 BR - 2:06.25 (PB), 16th

50 BK - 55.71 (PB), 33rd    100 FR - 1:47.10 (PB), 31st    50 BR - 59.04 (PB), 22nd

Oliver was on fire this weekend, 100 % best times in all of his swims.  We have been working on lots of little things in practice and he was working hard on them in all of his races. The biggest time drops being in his 100 M races with the highest being a drop of 17.78 in his 100 Backstroke.  Oliver likes to come help coach, taking times down and helping me keep track of where we are in the meet. Thanks Oli!! Keep up the hard work in practice Oliver, when we work on all the little things they add up to become a big thing!

13-14 Age Group

Sophie Baht (13) F

Sophie is an absolute rockstar both in and out of the pool! In the pool she made all new personal bests, swam absolutely killer races and was constantly improving and adapting to what we made of her race plans. Including a fantastic 200 free, a 200 IM that she got under 3:00 on and a fantastic 50 breast which she placed 3rd and medalled on! She's also fantastic to have on deck by being a wonderful role model to the little kids on the team by leading activations, providing encouragement to her teammates and cheering on everyone! Keep it up Soph!

Elizabeth Humphreys (14) F

Elizabeth is a force to be reckoned with in the pool! Personal bests all around with multiple of them putting her in medalling positions! Elizabeth swam hard and it showed, especially in her 100 free with breaking the 1:10 mark like we talked about. Elizabeth constantly improved every race and took her mistakes in stride and learned from them! Keep up the really wonderful work Elizabeth!

Jon Miller (13) M

Jon can do next to anything he puts his mind to and this weekend proves it! He had some very strong swims especially with his 100 free that he went into and crushed his previous time putting himself right at 1:20 like we talked about. Jons also an expert problem solver and learns from his mistakes quite quickly and it is so gratifying to watch. We are so happy to see you growing, Jon. Keep up the good work!

 Isabel Unreiner (13) F

Izzy is proving to be an incredibly strong and powerful swimmer that's becoming an absolute threat to the pool! Izzy had a really fantastic weekend and I believe she learned a lot about herself including that she is capable of anything she put her mind to which resulted in best times all around! Which included a stellar 100 free that she took 5 seconds off and put her so close to breaking 1:10 and a 50 breaststroke that she killed and made 2 best times in 1 day with. This is going to be an incredible season for Izzy and we are so excited to see what it brings for her!

15 & Over Age Group

Kaden Goffinet (15) M

Kaden killed this weekend and had a weekend filled with great races and best times! He put his mind to his races putting him in multiple medalling positions. He had a fantastic 100 breaststroke that he killed as well as a 100 free he took time off and is now so close to the 1:00 mark he can touch it. Watching Kaden race and giving himself goals of keeping up with and catching his fellow competitors is so much fun and results in some heart stopping races. Way too go Kaden!

William Miller (15) M

Will is an absolute rocket in the water and can blow the competition out of the water when he puts his head to it! Will rocked the pool this weekend putting himself in all medalling positions with multiple new best times! His 100 free and 100 fly were standouts as he finally broke that 1:00 mark with his free and raced his 100 fly for the first time and absolutely crushed it. Will has learned a lot this past year both technique and mental strength wise and it is paying off big time! Keep it up Will!
