ROCS Weekend Recap: Cornwall Snowflake Invitational & Eastern Region Grassroots Clinic
ROCS Weekend Recap: Cornwall Snowflake Invitational & Eastern Region Grassroots Clinic
It was a busy and exciting weekend for ROCS swimmers at both the Cornwall Snowflake Invitational (Nov. 7–8) and the Eastern Region Grassroots Clinic!
Cornwall Snowflake Invitational
ROCS sent 73 athletes to Cornwall to compete at their Snowflake meet. We have been supporting this meet as a club for over 15 years, and we continue to do so because it offers a friendly environment for our younger swimmers, and we feel it is important that our older swimmers be able to get up and race in anything from small town pools to world-class facilities.
This meet marked the first competition of the season for our Academy White swimmers, and they did an excellent job putting their skills into action. From strong starts to confident turns, our young swimmers showed that their hard work in practice is paying off.

Trying something for the first time in front of your peers and parents is never easy so we want to highlight the following swimmers for competing in their first meet: Alex Canney, Theo Kardaras, Maya Clevland, Rachel Garib-Benmergui, and Laina Luo. Congratulations on diving into competition head first!

We also want to celebrate our new Regional Qualifiers: Lulu Salter, Georgie Turner, Maisie Graham, and Alyssia Oma. These swimmers reached new milestones in their development and continue to push themselves to higher levels.

And finally, a special congratulations goes to Sam Dutrizac and Sinead Gomes, who both broke club records in the 13-14 boys and girls 50m Short Course Butterfly event — a great early-season achievement!
Eastern Region Grassroots Clinic
On Sunday morning from nine to noon, six ROCS swimmers and three coaches braved the oncoming snow to participate in an Eastern Ontario region grassroots-level clinic in Perth. Teams from around the region were offered the opportunity to bring 4-6 swimmers and corresponding coaches for a morning of inter-club idea exchange, coordinated by Swim Ontario.
Finlay Boyes, Georgie Turner, Leah Davis, Lulu Salter, Lloyd Lovett, and Harry Turk-Misener represented ROCS at the clinic. Supported by Coach Hanna, Coach Anne-Marie, and Coach Rick, these swimmers had the opportunity to train alongside athletes from across the region, and trying different drills and approaches to skills, and so gaining valuable experience to share with the other members of ROCS.

Well done to all our swimmers and coaches for representing ROCS with enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the weekend. ROCS ROCK!
