Richmond Rapids at Mies Schootman Invitational
April 17
th to 19th the Richmond Rapids competed at the Mies Schootman Invitational at UBC aquatic centre. With over 40 swimmers in attendance, the Rapids swam very well considering it was the Rapids first Long-Course (50m pool configuration) competition of the year. The Rapids placed 5
th over-all, setting a new team record, acquiring a new Provincial Championship qualifier and 2 new Far Western Qualifiers.
The meet showcased both the depth of the team-33 medals from 17 different athletes, and the rising stars of the team.
Tiffany Orr also has begun to emerge as a young breaststroker in the Province, winning the 50 breaststroke and medaling in 4 of 8 races she competed in.
Nicolaas Dekker swept the butterfly events, winning the 50, 100 and 200. Nicolaas has been on a streak as of late, since medaling at the short-course Provincial Championships in March and earning a spot on the Provincial Team. Nic represented BC in the 7
th annual duel meet against Alberta this weekend. He and teammate Nathan Muszynski each won their primary events at the duel meet, helping BC beat Alberta for the 7
th straight year.
Club Record-Daniella Korotchenko broke the 13-14 Girls 200 IM record.
