BC AA Champs Day 2 Report
Day 2 at the BC AA provincial Championship was another impressive day for our athletes! After a slow start in the 100 freestyle our swimmers stepped up and got on a roll in the following events performing very well by acheiving many life time personal bests and qualifying for finals. Ada Zhang and Mackenzie McCord and Lawrence Man started in it off in the 200 Breaststroke's by getting into finals.Their success lead to even more of our swimmers earning second swim oppurtuniites in the 100 Butterfly and 400 FR. Stepping up large in the 400 FR were Austin Berry (10) and Matthew Crawford (8). In the their first ever attempt at the 400 FR in a long course pool the boyspushed each other dropping 11 and 23 seconds off their short course times! Austin Went 6:15.79 and Matthew went 6:15.04.
In finals, Ada Zhang became our newest BC AAA provincial qualifier by racing aggressively from start to finsh in her 200 Breastroke to finsih with a time of 3:19.03. Ada is now qualified to compete at the AAA Provincial Championships in July in Kamloops! In the 14 year old girls category Mackenzie McCord had a great race and won the bronze medal in a time of 3:12.70 just outouching a swimmer from Prince George by 0.04 seconds! Selina Zhuo, once again showed off her endurance, in one of the most exciting races of the night by winning the bronze in the 11 year olds 400 FR!
The last event of the eveing was the 200 Medley Relay. Our 12 & under girils "A " relay team battled the team from Hyack right from the start to win the Silver medal. The B team placed 9th overall. On the boys side, both our relays team had very impressive performances. The team of Pratik, Nicholas, William & James ( all RD 2 swimmers) stepped up in heat 1 to set a time of 2:36.57. Their time held up to earn them the silver medal! The Rapids B team, comprised of 3 10 year olds and an 8 year old, placed 6th overall! As impressive as that was, the boys crushed the 10 & under club record by 7 seconds! The B team was lead out by Matthew Crawford, followed by Lawrence Man, Kyle Chan & Austin Berry. Our 13-14 girls also did a fablous job too, especially the anchor Marissa Murray who move up 3 places on her leg of the relay to place 4th overall, less than a second behind the team from Fort St. John.
