RICHMOND RAPIDS SWIM CLUB

Rapids have legendary AAA's

The Rapids returned this week from Victoria having swum one of the best meets in recent memory. Surviving frustrating disqulifications, frustrating just-outside-of-finals swims, and demanding schedules, the Rapids came back hard every session with a fantastic attitude and work ethic, showing their training off. After being in 9th place on Friday, our athletes outraced their competition to finish 5th place in the team rankings, out of 39 teams. The boys really stepped up, and are now the Men's Team Provincial Champions! In the process, the Rapids set thirteen team records and one relay team record. Additionally, two swimmers, Brandon De Costa and Hau-Li Fan were named to the BC Provincial Team.

That positioning came from some stunning individual performances. All together, the team had 90 swims in finals, which translated into seven 3rd place finishes, eleven 2nd place finishes, and five 1st place finishes

3rd Place:

  • Max Schaffler - 200 Back
  • Steven Zhou - 100 Breast, 200 Breast
  • Patrick Kell - 100 Breast
  • Michael Jakac-Sinclair - 50 Free
  • Hau-Li Fan - 200 IM
  • Brandon De Costa - 200 IM

2nd Place:

  • Brandon De Costa - 100 Free, 100 Back, 400 Free, 50 Free,
  • Nicholaas Dekker - 200 Back
  • Liam Kell - 100 Breast
  • Max Schaffler - 400 IM
  • Magnus Batara - 100 Breast
  • Jack Hong - 100 Fly

1st Place:

  • Hau-Li Fan - 400 IM
  • Nicholaas Dekker - 400 IM, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 100 Fly

Additionally, three relays finished in the top three.

  • Boys 14&U 800 Free Relay, 3rd. De Costa, Jakac-Sinclair, Zheng, Fan.
  • Boys 14&U 200 Medley Relay, 2nd. De Costa, Zheng, Fan, Jakac-Sinclair.
  • Boys 18&U 200 Medley Relay, 3rd. Dekker, Kell, Hong, Smith.

Though exciting to look at, these numbers hardly capture the drama and excitement of so many of the races, so you may have to do a little asking around for yourself.

Coaches and team members alike were very proud of such impressive success, but instead of resting on their laurels, the Rapids have returned to the pool with purpose, looking forward to improving on those statistics in the coming long course season.

Hearty congratulations to all the swimmers!
