Batara and Dekker selected for major teams

Magnus Batara and Nicholaas Dekker, after standout performances this spring, have gained attention at the national level.

Magnus Batara has been named to this year's Canadian Para Pan-Pacific Championship Team. Pan-Pacs is the third biggest meet in the world for able bodied and para-swimmers alike. Batara qualified for the team with his second place 100 Breaststroke performance at the Paralympic Spring Nationals in Minnesota with a stunning 8.4 second time drop, only one second outside the Paralympic Trials time cut. Batara's candidacy for the team was bolstered by his top three 100 Butterfly and 200 IM swims at the same meet.

Nicholaas Dekker was also named to a major team after winning the 200 and 400 Individual Medley, and the 100 and 200 Butterfly at Provincials. Dekker, along with other high level age group athletes, will represent BC in this summer's Western Canada Games. The WCG  provides an opportunity for promising young athletes in the western provinces to compete in one of 19 sports at a pre-national level. In addition to setting multiple team records this season, Dekker currently has this year's fastest 200 IM in the country for his age group.

Please give these swimmers your congratulations. Well done Rapids!
