Mies Shootman Swim Meet Great Success For Richmond Swimmers

                The Mies Shootman Invitational hosted by the Canadian Dolphins Swim Club remembers the substantial contribution of its namesake.   Shootman, who was inducted into the BC Swimming Hall of Fame as a builder was a huge contributor in Provincial swimming.

                The Richmond Rapids Swim Club attended the meet in her honour with the hopes of the next level of personal achievements.   The Rapids had 62 athletes attend the meet and had 26 athletes achieve 100% personal bests.

                Throughout the meet’s prestigious history records have been kept of the fastest results.  Kevin Ye (12) from Richmond set a new meet record in the boys 12 year old 200 IM.

Rapids’ Coach Drew McClure seemed very pleased with his swimmers results.

“It’s great to see the kids so enthusiastic about swimming.  It bodes well for a great long course season.”  McClure’s 13 & under swimmers were one of a large group of Rapids’ swimmers who achieved both second swims in finals and some medals at the meet.

                Club records were broken by Celine Hong in the girls 15-16 200 IM while the 10 & under boys broke five.  Jeremy Fung (10) broke the 9-10 boys 100 fly while Matthew Crawford (10) broke the boys 50 fly, 200 back, 50 back, 200 IM.  Kevin Ye broke the boys 11-12 200 free, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 fly, 200 IM.  Hau-Li Fan (14) broke the male 13-14 1500 freestyle.

                The Rapids had 2 new qualifiers; Anthony Chan (11) qualified his first ever AA championship standard while Thomas Huen (10) qualified for BC AAA Championships which are held in Richmond this July.

                Rapids swimmers will be gearing up for West Coast Open which is hosted out of Watermania pool.  Swimming runs all weekend May 5-6 and will host clubs from all across the Lower Mainland Region.
