RICHMOND RAPIDS SWIM CLUB

BC AAA Champs, Day 3

Drew McClure

Day 3 was a high point for the Rapids Provincial Team. After slipping in the ranks on Friday, our athletes came back fighting strong, earning the best medal count we've had all weekend.

Included in that count was a podium sweep for the Boys 13 Year Old 200 IM (pictured). With Kevin Ye taking the Gold, Max Schaffler taking Silver, and Jerry Liu taking Bronze, the Rapids accomplished a feat rarely seen.

In an edge-of-your-seat battle, the Boys 12&U A team (Berry, Rakchtis, Hsing, Murray) earned the Gold in the 4x200 Free Relay. After chasing down a tough Chena team, the Rapid Boys accomplished a come-from-behind win with a big last 100 to take first by two-tenths.

Coach Kurt Murphy was proud of the depth of our 12&U boys program. "To field two scoring relay teams consistently shows great strength and development in the category. Those athletes have done a lot to keep our team at the top of the rankings," Murphy said.

The above includes less than half of the medal count, which follows. Due to these and other listed scoring performances, the Rapids had moved into third overall by the end of the day.
