RICHMOND RAPIDS SWIM CLUB

BC AAA Champs, Day 4

Even if days one through three had been easy, day four of Provincial Championships promised to be a hard-fought battle. With the top six teams in close contention, every point mattered, and every race was going to be a tough one for the worn out athletes. The races were all difficult, all consistently tight, down-to-the-wire dragouts. The province was stepping up. Times were consistently faster than they were at 2011 Long Course AAAs, and records were being broken left and right.

It took a mental strength sofar unrequired this season. Anything less than constant, pure commitment would end the race. The Rapids accepted the challenge.

"Time after time, no matter the position or hope for a win, our athletes were showing competitiveness to a level I'd not seen this widespread," said Coach Drew McClure. "It was really encouraging. The end result was success, regardless of the place." A great example was the 12&U Boys Relay A Team, who, in a near-impossible struggle to overtake the Chena A team out for redemption, raced amazingly hard to finish with silver.

At the end of finals, after a Gold medal win by the Boys Open 4x50 Medley Relay Team to close out the competition (pictured, Jakac-Sinclair increasing the lead on the field), the Rapids finished a strong fifth overall.

Other medals and top eight finishes are listed below. Once again, a huge thank you to our volunteers. Our hosting of this meet could not have been the success it was without your amazing work.
