VPSC Decathlon (minus 1) big hit for Rapids
This last weekend at UBC, the Richmond Rapids competed at the VPSC Decathalon. Though the 200 Freestyle was struck from the event list, the Rapids were able to compress their racing ferocity into only 9 events.
"The main focus here was to race as hard as we could with the best skills we have," said Head Age Group Coach Dennis Silva. "We haven't been on a full schedule since we've been at Steveston. We were underdogs, but we weren't going to let little setbacks like that affect our racing."
And it certainly didn't. Even from two weeks ago at the PSW meet in Surrey, the Rapids athletes were showing major improvements, not just in times, but in tactical and technical ability and overal racing mentality.
"They raced their guts out, swimming at a higher level than a half-schedule would have predicted. I was really proud," said Head Assistant Coach Drew McClure.
As the meet was an aggregate time event, the age groups were ranked accordingly, and the Rapids were frequently represented in the top ten. In addition, we had several new club records broken! Results follow.
This is a great sign of things to come! GO RAPIDS!
