Coaching Staff

Robert Pettifer Director of Swimming & Head Coach (NAT)
As the Director of Swimming for the Richmond Rapids, Rob has unending vision and drive to produce a program of true quality. He invests time at every level of the club, caring for the development of our newest and youngest members while also personally investing in the athletes he coaches directly.
 
Never satisfied by the program he sees, Coach Rob always seeks for what could be done better. He promotes the merits of perspective, hard work, positivity, inclusiveness, and resourcefulness, and asks the same from his athletes and staff.
 
In his time on deck, Coach Rob has coached athletes to individual and relay provincial records, National Age Group relay records, and numerous provincial and national podium finishes. Coach Rob was selected as a Swimming Canada Development Coach on the 2015 Mare Nostrum Tour,and was named to the Swimming Canada Select Coaches Group for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons.
 
Rob completed the Advanced Coaching Diploma Program at the Canadian Sport Institute, which is the highest level offered by the National Coaching Certification Program.
Dennis Silva Senior Provincial Coach & Registrar

Dennis is a certified NCCP level 2 coach and has coached swimmers from the RSS program right up to the National level over 20 years. He believes that by consistantly giving your best effort, being accoutable, honest, and training with purpose on a daily basis, swimmers will develop a strong work ethic and valuable life skills through swimming. Dennis is also the club registrar and responsible for membership billing. Darryl Rudolf Youth Programs Lead Coach

Darryl has been coaching for over 10 years spending time as Head Coach at the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club and Campbell River Killer Whales. He also gained experience coaching with the Chena North Shore Swim Club and the UBC Dolphins. Darryl brings a unique level of experience to his coaching as well, as he grew up swimming through the age group programs in BC, swam for 5 years on the UBC Thunderbirds swim team, as well as spent 7 years on the Canadian National Team.    His transition from athlete to coach    has given him the tools he needs to connect to his swimmers, as well as an understand of how the skills that he developed through his time in pool have transfered over into his professional life. Darryl has coached swimmers to their first provincial times as well as swimmers onto the national team, and understands that each athletes path to success will not be the same. The life lessons and skills that they develop along their journey as a swimmer, is what will carry over into their next stage of life, and will continue to remind them why they chose to be a swimmer.

Amy Jorundson Swim School Coordinator

Amy swam with the Langley Flippers Swim Club for eight years while growing up. For the past 6 years, Amy has been on the Board of Directors in various roles for the Langley Flippers Swim Club, most recently as the club's registrar and vice president. She is a very detail oriented and organized person and is very passionate about swimming. She is very excited to be joining the club for the 2021/2022 season and is looking forward to meeting and working with all of the Swim School swimmers and coaches.

Samantha Corea AGD 2 Coach

The coach for the Junior 2 camp and the dolphin kick clinic is Samantha Corea. Samantha began her swimming with the Gators Swim Club and VPSC. Afer High school, Samantha swam for and attended the University of Denver. Samantha earned mutliple academic scholarships and athletic awards during University. She was also a 2 time finalist at the NCAA Swimming Championships. In 2015, Samantha was a member of Canada's Pan American Games Team and made an A final at the 2016 Olympic Trials. Samantha's coaching experience includes working for the Vancouver Vikings and running swimming clinics with the BCSSA and the University of Denver.  

Tanja Paterson RSS Coach


Tanja was a competitive swimmer for 9 years and has been with the Richmond Rapids since the beginning.  This year will be her 28th year of coaching and she enjoys teaching children to to swim.  During the day, she is an educational assistant in the Richmond School District.

William Weng Senior Fitness Coach

William is attending his first year of medical school.  He swam for many years with the Rapids program and this will be his seventh year of coaching with the Rapids.  He is also a lifeguard with the City of Richmond.

Ni Weng Youth 1 Coach
 
I started swimming at a very young age and fell in love with the sport. I continued to swim competitively for about 11 years. I wanted to become a swim coach because I love interacting with kids, getting to know each swimmer individually, and looking for different ways to solve problems.
Karen Li RSS Coach

Karen swam competitively for five years and volunteered for a year before becoming a coach at our Rapids program at Minoru. This will be her fourth year coaching with the Rapids and she is a student at Richmond Secondary.
