Last week at the Summer Ontario Swimming Championships, Region of Waterloo athletes went above and beyond expectations as they continue to impress through the Summer Championship Meet Season! We are excited to bring to you some pre-meet information regarding our next two championship meets coming up this weekend! We will be seeing 15 swimmers attending Ontario Youth-Juniors in Markham and 14 attending Festivals in Etobicoke. This is the highest number of athletes we have sent to both meets since OYJ’s formulated into existence in 2018! This past weekend our novice level athletes travelled down the road to the University of Guelph to compete in their last competition of the 2022-2023 swim season, the GMAC End of Year Splash! The London and Sydney swimmers did a great job adding some new events to their ever-growing repertoire, some even completing their first 50 fly ever! In addition to our first championship meet of Spring/Summer, Region of Waterloo Swim Club had a contingent of athletes racing at Age Group International this past weekend in Etobicoke. AGI is a long-standing meet, and typically attracts several of the fastest athletes, both from in-province and out-of-province, as athletes begin to prepare for Provincial and National meets over the next 2 months. This past weekend ROW competed at the first of our Championship meets, the Western Regional Championships in Windsor. ROW sent 40 qualifiers from our ND, PD1, Seoul, PD2, LA, Paris and Beijing groups to compete against all clubs in the western region where all our athletes raced their hearts out to achieve an 8th place overall finish at the competition! Our 12& under athletes headed to the Markham Pan Am pool to compete in our final meet of May at the MAC Rising Stars meet, which took place on May 27-28. Dear ROW families: The Region of Waterloo Swim Club closed out the month of April by competing at the John Grootveld Sr. Officials Classic hosted by Toronto Swim Club at the University of Toronto. It’s not often that we are able to venture into the downtown core of the biggest city in Canada. I hope everyone was able to experience and enjoy the energy this major city had to offer.
