Swim Meets

Swim meets are an integral part of summer swimming and the St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club. The St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club encourages all athletes to participate in swim meets throughout the season. Most clubs in our region (Region B) will host a swim meet on the weekends throughout the summer season. Out of town travel will be required for most swim meets.

Circuit Swim Meets

The swim meets hosted by the Region B swim clubs are considered as "Circuit swim meets'. Circuit swim meets can be one-day long or two-days long. All circuit swim meets are swum as "finals"; athletes will swim their event once throughout the swim meet. Two-days long swim meets will host distance events (400m, 800m, 1500m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley) on Fridays. This is considered the evening session. One-day swim meets and the second-day of two-day swim meets will have a morning session and afternoon session. Relays will take place during the afternoon session. However, this is based on time-availability. There will be a break in between the morning and afternoon session for lunch. Medal ceremonies will occur after the afternoon session.

Regional Championships

Regional Championships are the championship swim meet for our Region. Athletes must swim at at least one (1) circuit swim meet in order to compete at Regional Championships. Regional Championships typically takes place over two days. Regional Championships will consist of preliminaries and finals. Preliminaries will be swum in the morning session, and finals will be swum in the afternoon sessions. Athletes will need to place within the top 8 in their event after prelimanaries to qualify for finals. Relay events will only be swum as finals. Medal ceremonies will take place after the afternoon sessions. Award ceremonies will take place after the medal ceremonies on the second day.

Provincial Championship

Provincial championships are the championship swim meet for the ASSA. Athletes generally must either place top 2 at Regional Championships in their event or be "wildcarded" into Provincial Championships. Provincial Championships takes place over three days. Provincial Championships are swum as finals. No preliminaries are swum at Provincial Championships. Provincial Championships will consist of a morning session and afternoon session. Athletes will swim their events either in the West Pool or East Pool (At Kinsmen Sports Centre) based on their rankings going into Provincial Championships.

Volunteering

Families will be asked to volunteer at the swim meets to fulfill their volunteer commitments for the season. Volunteer positions may include timer, official, stroke and turn judge, referee, marshalling, hospitality, and security. Volunteer sessions are offered for the morning session and afternoon session.
