Drew de Michaelis

Gold Group

Born and raised in Washington DC, Drew grew up splitting time between soccer, basketball, and body surfing at the beach during the summers. He was a late bloomer, beginning his competitive swimming career as a freshman in high school where he was a four-year dual athlete in swimming and rowing. Later, he joined the College of William and Mary team as a walk-on, swam all four years while earning a Bachelors in Finance and Masters in Accounting.

After graduating, Drew stayed on dry land for 10 years before joining Masters swimming in 2021. Drew was a Top-10 finisher in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke at the 2023 US Masters Swimming Nationals in Irvine, CA. While discipline and success in the sport is very important, Drew also strives to be a good role model and positive influence to all of the young athletes he works with.

About me: I grew up in Yorba Linda, California. I graduated in 2023 from Long Beach State with my B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. Currently, I am completing my Master’s degree in Public Health at CSULB and will be graduating next spring with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian. In the meantime, I have been coaching both swim and water polo at Viking, as well as being an assistant coach at Long Beach City College.

Water Polo/Swimming: I began competitively swimming at the age of 8 and started playing water polo at 12 years old. I then attended Esperanza High School, where I was a Varsity athlete for four years in both swimming and water polo. During this time, I also played for the SOCAL water polo club. After high school, I went to Long Beach City College, competing in water polo and swimming for two years. I then completed my water polo career at Long Beach State.

Olivia Hurley

Junior Viking

Hi, I’m Coach Olivia! I am currently a student-athlete here at LBCC for the women’s water polo and swim teams. I have been a competitive water polo player and swimmer for 6 years now and am excited to help young kids find love for a sport that I wish I had found sooner in my own life! I am originally from the Central Valley and attended Bullard High School in Fresno where I was a 4 year varsity swimmer and a 3 year varsity water polo athlete. I made CMAC All-League First Team twice on the water polo team and was named CMAC All-League M.V.P. my senior year. I am starting my second year here at LBCC and am excited to see what the next swim and polo seasons bring!

Throughout my 6 years of competitive swim and water polo, I have been very involved with coaching at all levels of athletes from Junior Viking kiddos to high schoolers, and take pride in creating a fun and engaging learning environment for young athletes.
