Junior Viking
Junior Viking is an introductory-level program for new and continuing swimmers, typically ages 5-10. The emphasis of this program is on teaching the four competitive swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. In addition, basic racing starts and finishes are taught. JV swimmers will participate in practice fun meets at Viking with another local team.
Requirements:
- Swimmers must be water safe
- Comfortable swimming the full pool length (25 yards) unassisted
- Have a basic foundation and understanding of freestyle and backstroke
Junior Viking is split between 2 different classes based on skill level. In Junior Viking 2, swimmers have all 3 requirements listed above. In Junior Viking 1, swimmers have all 3 requirements AND additional knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly. Technique or speed are not factors in the decision to place a swimmer in Junior Viking. Our instructors for this program are primarily in the water with the swimmers for optimal instruction.
Practices: M/W/TH 4:30-5:15 PM (Junior Viking 1) // M/W/TH 5:15-6:00 PM (Junior Viking 2)
Fees: $40 one-time registration fee / $75 per month / $30 annual Flex membership (12 years and younger & practice only) with USA Swimming
JV is a limited space enrollment program; a waiting list will be established when a section(s) fill(s) up.
