Coaches and Directors
My love and journey for swimming began as a
child growing up in Longmont, CO and Charlotte, NC.
In 1992, I returned to Colorado and started working for the City of
Greeley. I finished my degree at University of Northern Colorado,
graduating with a BS in Kinesiology, emphasis in Exercise science
and BA in Recreation.
I have been coaching and mentoring athletes for more than 33 years. I swore that when I graduated from UNC, I would not run pools and be on the pool deck.....But I am crazy and love what I do.
I spent the last 18 years coaching for Loveland swim club in Loveland and Greeley.
After watching Greeley Swim Club dissolve 12 years ago, I am so proud to be part of bringing back such a dynamic swim club.
I coach because I get to help young individuals
grow in and out of the pool. I am so fortunate to have found such
an amazing community in Northern Colorado. My first class of
swimmers that are 33-34 years old, married, and having children,
were the ones that affectionately started calling me
“MamaMaria”
Only my big HS children get to call me that, as they decided it was
fitting for all that I do for them on week long travel meets.
The bag I carry every day to practice is affectionately called
‘the Mary Poppins bag’
My husband, Jim and I chose not to have any
children, as my job has allowed me to spend quality time with my
swimmer children. And Yes I claim all them all.
