The Johnstown YMCA Wahoos Swim Team (JYWST) coach staff is led by over 40 years of competitive swim coaching experience.

Head Coach Wietse (Wit-sa)

• Grew up swimming in Northern Colorado for Loveland Swim Club and Loveland High School.
• Has coached for over 35 years, all the way back to prehistoric times (wool swim suits, wood goggles and training with dinosaurs in a lake). 
• Has coached at the Club, High School, Summer Club, Middle School and Masters Swimming levels.
• Grew up in Loveland and attended CSU, earning a BS (Industrial Engineering).
• Spent 30 years as an engineer and account executive (sales) in the hi-tech industry, and has been able to enjoy the sport by swimming masters and participating in open water events along the way.
• Coaching philosophy – (1) race like you train, train like you race (2) going really fast is in the details (3) it’s never too late to be fast and (4) let's have fun.

Coach Marcie

• Grew up in Arvada and started competitive swimming at 7 years old.
• Swam for North Jeffco Swim Club and was on the senior team from the age of 12 to graduating high school.
• Swam high school for Arvada West and then swam for University Northern Colorado.
• Graduated from UNC in 2003 with a teaching degree. Third Grade Teacher in Brighton.
• Leads our Junior 2 and Age Group programs - with a focus on technique and more technique.
