As a team, we have always required parents to do volunteer hours. The reason for this is the more help we get from families, the longer we can keep registration costs down. We know that families are busy-we really get it!! Our Board is made up of parent volunteers. Our coaches are paid, but realistically it is mostly a volunteer position. Most of our lifeguards are former swimmers who do this because they love swimming, not because their paychecks are remarkable. It's not just the swimmers who are on the team; we all are a part of the team!
For this reason, at the end of the season we charge a volunteer fee ($200) to families who do not complete their volunteer slots. Most seasons families are required to do four slots. You might help with concessions at one meet, time at another meet, time at championships, and be a timesheet runner at another. Maybe your work schedule makes it difficult to help in which case, Grandma or Uncle Bob can help complete your hours.
We send out a schedule of what positions are needed as soon as we know when the meets are for the season. It is your responsibility to sign up through your team account so that we can track your hours and know where you are helping out. Each job offers a chance to help your child have a better swimming experience.
Thanks for joining our team that supports the WWRX swimmers!
