Fernley Sharks & Sparks Piranhas Swim Meet

The Fernley Aquatic Swim Team (Sharks) in conjunction with the Sparks Piranhas held their Swim Meet of the year on September 13 & 14 at the Fernley Community Pool. It was a huge success and they hope to host many more.

As the interim coach (Lupe Schaffer) I would like to state; "The swim team was very excited about hosting this meet." Our team has been dealing with many challenges lately, no pool to practice in, losing a head coach and traveling to Fallon and Reno to get some time in the water. Even though the pool open on August 11th, the kids have been amazing. They are dedicated and determined to do their best, and they all did just that at their home swim meet.

All 12 of the following swimmers were awarded metals and/or ribbons from 1st to 8th. in all the events they entered: Alan Ackerman received a high point trophy for his age group, Jasmine (Jazz) Schaffer, Kris Koch, Alex Hogan, Mackenzie (Mac) Clark, Jadon Rotton, Samuel (Sam) Wright, Morgan Clark, Klayton Koch, (our new swimmers) Emily Oetinger, Megan Geil-Crader, Bailei Briscoe. These 12 swimmers finished the meet with all new best times as well as new standard achieved times. Our senior swimmer Kyla Rotton did not compete but was there to add support by helping with the timing of events.

"The FAST swimmers displayed team spirit and outstanding sportsmanship at the meet. The meet officials have communicated their desire for the team’s to continue to host meets at the newly renovated Fernley pool. They were happy with the facility and mentioned they were going to advertise at the State and Jr. Olympic meets for other teams to consider future ttendance of the Fernley Swim Meet," stated Lupe Schaffer (interim coach and Vice-President of the swim team board) "Our team had a great experience at hosting this meet, our kids and parents are eager to return next year for another successful meet." The team is now gearing up to travel to Las Vegas Nevada for the Sierra Nevada State Swim Meet. Go Sharks! And congratulations, Interim Coach Lupe’ Schaffer.
