GENERAL QUESTIONS

· WE WANT TO ENTER TEAM BRAVO. WHAT IS OUR FIRST STEP?
Your first step is to sign up for a Team Evaluation. Evaluations last about 15 minutes and are used
to determine your swimmer's group placement. Once the evaluation is complete, you will receive a
group placement email with team registration instructions.

· WHO CAN JOIN?
Swimmers aged 6-18 can try out.
Potential members of my team need to complete our level 5 requirements and
1. Demonstrate proper technique in all 4 strokes.
2. Can swim 100 yards freestyle, backstroke. breaststroke and 50 yards butterfly.
3. Can dive from sitting position.

Parents who will be willing to become volunteer officials get another 10% discount off monthly total
tuition.
Leave of absence: Any Bravo swimmers that decide to take a month (or more) off, with intention of
returning to Bravo Swim Team, may take a “Leave of Absence”. This leave needs to be communicated
with your coaches before the 25th of the month prior to avoid being billed for the time you are gone.
***Once an invoice has been generated for the following month, because the coaching staff was not
informed of the planned time off, the invoice must be paid regardless of the number of days the swimmer
attended practice.
· ARE THERE ANY OTHER TEAM REQUIREMENTS?
Parent Volunteering
The coach-owner runs the swim club as a business. However, it is likely that the coach will still need
volunteers to perform several functions to help the team run smoothly. Think for a moment about all the
functions that accompany running a swim team. When the team is small, in the beginning, it may be
possible to do it all, but as the team grows, more help may be needed. This is where parent volunteers can
be a big help.
Some of the jobs that parents can do include:

1. Running swim meets. This includes all aspects of the meet from signing up volunteers, to setting
up and cleaning up on the day of the meet, to running concession and hospitality stands, to
officiating and cleaning up the administrative details at the conclusion of the meet.
2. Social events. All teams benefit from social interaction among swimmers and among parents.
Parent volunteers can oversee events such as team picnics, end of the season banquets and
holiday parties.
3. Fundraising. If fundraising is necessary for the team, parents can oversee fundraising efforts.
4. Communication. Parents can handle communication such as phone trees, publishing and
distributing newsletters (with information provided by the coach), maintaining the web site and
updating bulletin boards (with information provided by the coach.)
5. Equipment. Parents can be charged with ordering and disbursing equipment such as team attire
and team suits.
6. Team Travel. Parents can not only help to plan team travel (hotel rooms, rental cars, buses,
airline travel) but they are also invaluable as chaperones and meal planners.
7. Publicity. Parents can handle publicity for the team. Look particularly for a parent with good
connections in the community.
There may be other jobs that parents can perform. This does not mean the coach-owner has no
responsibility. In fact, exactly the opposite is true. The coach-owner needs to oversee all the above
operations and delegate responsibility.

· I HAVE AN ACCOUNT/BILLING QUESTION. WHO DO I CONTACT?
For questions about your account, billing, or other administrative topics, please contact…

· QUESTIONS ABOUT PRACTICE
· DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY PRACTICE?
While we do not have a strict practice attendance requirement, we encourage athletes to attend as
many practices as possible.

· WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR PRACTICE?
Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes early to have time to change, ready their equipment, and speak to
coaches. Remember, scheduled starting times are when swimmers will jump in to begin the work out.
If swimmers arrive late, have them ready as soon as possible and send them to their coach.

· WHAT SHOULD MY SWIMMER BRING TO PRACTICE?
Swimmers should have appropriately fitting swimsuits, goggles, swim caps, a water bottle, and
closed-toed athletic shoes for dryland. Additional training equipment is group specific and can be
found here.

· WHAT IF I HAVE TO LEAVE EARLY?
If you must leave early, please inform your coach before practice.

· ARE PARENTS ALLOWED ON DECK DURING PRACTICE?
Parents and siblings are not allowed directly on the pool deck during practice. Parents are welcome to
observe their swimmers from designated viewing areas. Parent interaction during practice can be
distracting to the coaching staff, your swimmer, and other swimmers.

· WHEN CAN I SPEAK TO MY CHILD’S COACH?
Quick questions and concerns can be posed before or after practice. For more in-depth inquiries, the
best way to reach our coaching staff is by sending them an email.

· CAN I MAKE UP A MISSED PRACTICE?
Team Bravo does not offer make-up practices. If you miss a practice for any reason, all you can do is
to bring your swimmer to their next regularly scheduled practice.

· WEATHER POLICY
1. Please do not call the pool office to see if the pool is open. If it is only raining --- all groups will
train at their normal times.
2. If there is thunder and lightning in the area –most pools have a "Thor guard" lightning detection
system. When the alarm goes off, we must exit the pool and get off the pool deck as soon as
possible. BRST will handle this occurrence as follows.
3. If storms are passing through, we will wait up to half an hour before deciding to cancel a group
practice. For example, if the pool is closed at 5:00 p.m. we will wait until 5:30 p.m. to cancel.
When the storms are being caused by a large system and weather looks to be the same over a
longer time, we will cancel practices in a reasonable fashion.
4. If the alarm goes off while we are in the pool and there is only 45 minutes of practice or less,
children will be dismissed from practice.  In this case, a BRAVO Coach will remain at the pool
until all children are picked up.
5. If the alarm goes off while there is more than 45 minutes of practice left, we will take the team
inside the building, until we can safely re-enter the pool, or practice is called off.
6. Tropical Weather - When a tropical storm is approaching, we will become subject to all school
policies regarding school closures.

Swimmers will be able to attend roughly one swim meet per month.

· IS THERE A FEE ASSOCIATED WITH MEET ATTENDANCE?
Meet fees vary by meet and will be detailed within each meet announcement.
In addition, Team BRAVO will have surcharges to help us to offset some meet expenses, credit card

The BRAVO swim meet surcharges are:

· DO I HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY MEET?
No. However, we encourage swimmers to attend all available meets.

· DO I HAVE TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE MEET?
While we want your swimmer present for the entire meet, we understand families have other
commitments. When you declare meet attendance, you will be able to leave notes about leaving early,
arriving late, or which days of the meet you can attend. For unexpected conflicts, you may tell your
coach at the meet or send them an email.

· WHAT DOES MY SWIMMER NEED TO BRING TO THE MEET?
Swimmers will need to bring their team suit, team cap, goggles, towels, and clothes/parka to wear
between their events. It is also a great idea to bring plenty of water and healthy snacks to eat
