Karen Hohne Swimming Scholarship
The Karen Hohne Swimming Scholarship will provide financial assistance for an underserved south Lake County student who wishes to further his/her fitness, wellness and competitive swimming potential and join the South Lake Aquatics Club Swim Team.
The purpose of the Karen Hohne Swimming Scholarship is:
- Support an underserved student to join the South Lake Aquatics Club swim team to enhance skills, increase confidence and positive sportsmanship by being part of a team environment, and provide the opportunity to excel in a sport they are passionate about.
Applicant should reside in the Orlando Health South Lake County Hospital District (Minneola, Montverde, Mascotte, Groveland, or Clermont)
The amount of funds included in the scholarship award shall be used toward the cost of fees associated with being on the swim team and the student and/or student’s family should be prepared to help subsidize any remaining costs not covered (such as travel expenses, swimsuit, goggles, etc.). The scholarship will be paid directly to the appropriate subaccount of the South Lake Aquatic Club and may vary year to year. Scholarship funds will not be provided directly to the student/recipient.
A scholarship application (and scholarship reward) is good for one swim season. Applicants may reapply the following year for another scholarship if denied. Recipients awarded the scholarship may apply the following year for another scholarship, but there is no guarantee the subsequent scholarship will be renewed, as the purpose of the scholarship is to provide as many students as possible the opportunity to receive funding.
The Criteria for the scholarship includes:
- Completion of application
- Hold and maintain a minimum of 2.5 grade point average in school
- Complete a 500 word essay describing his/her desire to receive the scholarship
- Financial need
Interview with appropriate OH-SLH and SLAC staff/coaches (and possible swim analysis).
