A3 Developmental Championships - Meet Results and Coaches Report

Florida Gold Coast South – Developmental Championships
March 2-3, 2013

Wow – what a showing by MCDA swimmers at Developmental Champs!  For the last six months, these athletes have been practicing hard, developing new skills and learning how to race.  This meet, for most of our swimmers, was the short course season finale – and a chance to show how far they’ve come since September.  MCDA swimmers rose to the challenge, and in 141 races, we achieved 70.5% best times!

The highlights:

Average time dropped for 50 yard races:  3 seconds

Average time dropped for 100 and 200 yard races:  7 seconds

Average time dropped for 400 and 500 yard races:  14 seconds

MCDA had more than twice as many 8 and under swimmers competing than any other team!  Our 8 and under group – swimming in the 10 and under division – combined to drop 140 seconds in their collective races.  MCDA’s future looks bright in the midst of these budding champions:

·         Ameya Beohar

·         Ryan Berkshire

·         Bradley Burkhalter

·         Shaelyn Davis

·         Daniel Estupinan

·         Harry Florin

·         Matias Hernandez

·         Juan Olivera

·         Valeria Villanueva

Huge kudos to two of our Advanced Blue swimmers who, for the first time in their burgeoning swimming careers, qualified for finals with Top 10 morning performances:

Jack Bergman – 100 breast

Isabella Pedraza – 200 free

Great job to all relay swimmers!  The coaching staff was thrilled to see relays come together as athletes raced hard, with a great sense of purpose and team pride.  In the future, we look forward to seeing more swimmers commit towards attending meets, so we can offer as many swimmers the possibility of being selected for a relay.

Finally, a biig congratulations goes out to Emma Rodriguez, who qualified for Speedo Sectional Championships in the 100 breastroke.  The Speedo Champions Series meet is the first step in elite athlete development and USA Swimming’s National Team selection pipeline.  Emma’s success is a significant milestone for Miami Country Day Aquatics, and hopefully, a rising tide to lift all boats!
