The vision of Head Coach Brent Arckey, an international coach with experience in Olympic, World Championship, and Pan American Games competitions, drives the Sarasota Sharks’ winning tradition. That vision comes to life each day through a passionate coaching staff, led by Head Age Group Coach John Bruenning, who inspires athletes to excel in competition, academics, and character.
On the world stage and at Olympic Trials – From U.S. Olympian Emma Weyant (Tokyo 2020 - Silver medalist and Paris 2024 - Bronze medalist) to Canadian Olympian and World Record holder Summer McIntosh (Paris 2024 - 3x Olympic Gold, 1x Silver medalist), Sharks compete at the highest levels, with 45 athletes qualifying for Olympic Trials, including 11 in both 2020 and 2024.
In higher education and beyond – More than 100 Sharks have excelled at colleges and universities nationwide, while Masters swimmers ages 18 to 95 continue to set records and inspire the next generation.
Across a lifetime – Athletes grow within the program to reach their full potential in sport, academics, and character.

A Tradition of Excellence
For nearly 65 years, the Sarasota Sharks have upheld a proud tradition of excellence. Now, as an independent 501(c)(3), we are responsible for the operations and upkeep of the Selby Aquatic Center — a world-class facility that welcomes more than 2,000 athletes annually, serving as a hub for community swimming, from toddlers learning water safety to Olympians preparing for the world stage.
