Sydney Hardy Sweeps at FLAGS; Tallies Six US Open Cuts in July
Sydney Hardy swam all personal bests en route to nine wins and three US Open cuts at the 2025 FLAGS Championships in Ocala, Florida. These impressive swims, as well as those two weeks later at Futures, helped her finish off her breakout summer with six US Open cuts and an additional five Summer Junior National cuts.
The 14-year-old from the Sarasota Sharks kicked off the meet in her best event, the 1500 free, where she not only took the victory, but did so in dominant fashion. Hardy’s 16:45.04 got her the win by 47 seconds, and was well under the US Open cut of 17:07.99. Not only that, but she climbed into the all-time top 50 for 13-14 girls in that event, sitting in 47th, one spot ahead of Olympian Claire Weinstein (16:45.42).
This set the tone for the rest of the meet, as she would go on to win her remaining five individual events and three relays. Perhaps most impressive about Hardy’s weekend was the variety of events she swam, with individual wins in the 400 free (4:17.45), 100 back (1:03.87), 200 breast (2:35.47), 50 fly (28.22), and 200 fly (2:17.58). Her times in the 400 free and 200 breast were also good enough to qualify for the US Open, while the 200 fly gave her another event to swim at Summer Juniors.
