2025 Long Course Championship Season Report
Summer season is now over.
Championship Meets have concluded.
Here is the Summer Championship season report.
Southern Zone South Sectional Meet was held in Ocala, FL 6/26-29/2025. Hurricanes were represented by Lizzy(15), 2nd time qualifier.
Lizzy qualified for the 200 Breast and was allowed 2 bonus swims (50&100 Breast). In this meet Lizzy qualified to return to finals in the 200&100 Breast.
In her 100 Breast she was able to chop 0.49sec off her personal best time.
2025 Summer Long Course FLAGs was held in Ocala, FL 7/10-13/2025. Mo(10) first time qualifier. Mo competed in the 50 Fly and Breast.
She was able to take off another 0.92sec off her personal best time in the Fly.
2025 Summer Long Course Senior Champs was also held in Ocala, FL 7/17-20/2025. This Championship team consisted of Lizzy(15, repeat qualifier), David(15, first time qualifier) and Yulia(14, first time qualifier.)
Lizzy swam the 100 Back, 50,100&200 Breast, 50&100 Back, and 200IM. She was able to earn a spot in final in the 200 Breast and earned 14th place, scoring the team 7 points. She was able to drop personal best times in 100 Back (3sec), 200 Breast (1.42 sec), 200 IM (2.27sec). Moved up in motivational times in the 100 Back (A), 200IM (AA).
David swam the 100&200 Breast, 200 Fly, 400IM, 800&1500 Free. He swam the 1500 Free and earned 16thplace, earning 5 of the teams 12 points. He dropped time in the 1500 Free (27.01sec), 400IM (5.65 sec) and 800 Free (7.34). The lost of time earned him the title of the Biggest Loser for the meet. He moved up in motivational times in the 1500 Free (AA).
Yulia swam the 50 Free plus 50&100 Fly. She dropped .81sec in her 100 Fly and .47sec in the 50 Fly.
2025 Summer Area 5 Championships was held in Pt. Charlotte, FL 7/25-27/2025. Hurricanes had a great showing with 25 swimmers swimming in the meet. The weather was hot, so hot that we were not able to swim Friday night due to lightening. Despite the weather our swimmers were also hot in the pool, with most everyone dropping time. Now to the awards.
BIGGEST LOSERS: (all losers are listed at the bottom of this report)
#4 was Yulia(15) with a loss of 42.65sec.
#3 was Reagan(14) leaving 43.77 sec behind and
#2 was Vova(15) after dropping a nice 50.04sec.
Our Biggest Loser award goes to Andrei(14) who lost a staggering 1min:37.2sec.

Big congratulations to all swimmers from the Hurricanes that swam in the Area 5 meet this weekend. Everyone swam well. All the coaches are extremely proud of accomplishments in the water during this meet. All this time drop and moving up in motivational groups is proof that your hard work in practice is paying off. Lets keep up the good work as we now start on our new Short Course season starting the end of August.
Over the next few short weeks we will be working with all swimmers to develop goals for swimming. Parents, be sure to ask your swimmers what their goals are and assist them in keeping track of their progress. It would be great to see our number of swimmers attending the championship meets grow during Short Course Championship season. What is better than seeing swimmers in Championship meets is seeing swimmers moving up in the Motivational time groups.
Our next meet is TYR Stingrays Season Opener, August 23-24 at the New Tampa Y. Please sign up for this meet as it is always a great time at this pool. Registration is due August 12 (the day after school starts, sorry swimmers and you made it through the summer parents)
