About the Hurricanes Swim Team
Founded in 2017, the Venice YMCA Hurricanes Swim Team was established to bring a high-quality, values-driven swim program to the local community. As the official competitive swim team of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, we are deeply rooted in the mission and core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
The Hurricanes operate year-round out of the Venice YMCA facility, offering training opportunities for athletes of all ages and experience levels. Whether swimmers are just graduating from swim lessons or striving to qualify for championship meets, our program provides a pathway to personal and athletic growth in a positive and inclusive team environment.
Our home pool is the only Olympic-sized pool in the Venice area, offering our swimmers access to a facility that supports both short-course and long-course training. This unique resource allows our athletes to prepare for a wide range of competition formats and sets our program apart in the region.
Since our founding, we have focused not only on developing fast swimmers but also on fostering strong character. Our coaching staff emphasizes technique, teamwork, goal-setting, and leadership. Every practice, meet, and team event is an opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and life-long friendships.
As part of the national YMCA Swimming and USA Swimming organizations, our team competes in local, regional, and state-level meets throughout the year. We take pride in representing the Venice YMCA with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and a commitment to excellence in and out of the water.
