Coach Mike brings over 20 years of coaching experience at both the age group and Masters levels. He’s been part of the YMCA of Southwest Florida Hurricanes since 2021 and previously coached with Nation’s Capital Swim Club, J&M Swim, and Alexandria Masters Swimming.
A member of the American Swimming Coaches Association since 2002, Mike holds ASCA Masters and Level II certifications. He specializes in stroke technique and enjoys working with swimmers ages 9–14 to help them build strong fundamentals.
Mike swam competitively in high school, played varsity water polo at Yale University, and competed in Masters Swimming for over two decades. He also holds degrees from Yale and George Mason University and has had a successful career in healthcare administration and consulting.
Outside the pool, Mike enjoys gardening, singing, cooking, and spending time with his two grandchildren, Cameron and Chloe.

PJ Leman

PJ Leman brings a competitive swimming background and a forward-thinking approach to his role as Aquatics Director at the YMCA of Southwest Florida. He swam all four years of high school in Southern California and trained year-round with Horizon Swim Club, specializing in the 50 and 100 freestyle. A highlight of his swimming career was competing at the Junior Olympics in 2022, held in Clovis, California.
PJ began his YMCA journey in 2019 as a swim instructor and joined the YMCA of Southwest Florida in July 2023. Since then, he has focused on reimagining what aquatics can look like at the Y—emphasizing innovation, accessibility, and a renewed commitment to excellence. Under his leadership, aquatics programming continues to grow in quality and impact, offering dynamic pathways for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
As Aquatics Director, PJ is passionate about building an environment where participants don’t just learn to swim—they gain confidence, develop character, and feel a true sense of belonging. His work is grounded in the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
When he’s not on deck or leading a team meeting, you can usually find PJ out on the golf course, enjoying the challenge of a different kind of competition.
