Mission Statement
To use competitive swimming to mold, support, and mentor young people into outstanding citizens and world-class athletes. DAQ is committed to providing a safe environment for all participants, with athlete protection policies and guidelines in place following USA Swimming best practices.
Philosophy
- Maintain a “small family-unit” feel despite our growth.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.
- Keep our doors open to all swimmers, within financial reason.
- Maintain our presence in our geographic area while attracting others who want to be part of our success.
Goals
- Nurture each child at every age, allowing them to develop as far as their dreams, talents, and efforts take them.
- Teach the process of achieving: encourage dreams, set worthy goals, promote a strong work ethic, provide support during struggles, and inspire perseverance until success.
- Provide coaching that develops world-class swimmers, builds character, self-confidence, and a love for the sport.
- Encourage parents to actively support their child and the program, recognizing their investment as key to success.
- Offer the community and the swimming world young people who strive to be their best—as individuals, students, citizens, and athletes.
DAQ Swim Team
Founded over twenty years ago by Head Coach Melissa Wilborn, DeKalb Aquatics (DAQ) is a year-round competitive swim team serving DeKalb County, Decatur, and Metro Atlanta. DAQ is committed to racial and socio-economic diversity, team camaraderie, and integrity. Many of our dedicated coaches are former DAQ swimmers, providing personalized instruction and guidance.
Swimmers are evaluated and placed into one of seven practice groups based on age and ability. No swimmer is turned away; those needing skill development are encouraged to take lessons with our skilled coaches.
Swimming demands dedication from both participants and their families. At DAQ, families choose their level of commitment based on their situations and goals. While a consistent practice schedule is ideal, it is not mandatory. Improvement correlates with the frequency and quality of practice. Participation in swim meets is encouraged but not required for beginners. Advanced groups have opportunities to compete at state, regional, national, and international levels.
