HEAD COACH TYSON ORMONDE

BIO:

My name is Coach Tyson Ormonde. I have been coaching for over 29 years in Northern California and Southern California and have a love and personal passion for swimming. I have coached many High Schools and headed up Club summer swim teams for 17+ years. I owned a team and coached a USA swim organization called Team Wave from Campbell California where I was the head coach/owner for over 6 years. I had a team of 200+ kids where I was the SR coach and JR elite coach of a team that started with just 60 swimmers. I have coached Junior Olympic swimmers, Far Western swimmers, Sectional Swimmers, PAC coast all-star swimmers, Western Zone all-star swimmers, North American Challenge cup swimmers, Junior National, special needs swimmers, and more. I have experience in coaching every age group. I specialize in teaching in water lessons including levels 1 infant survival. But with all that being said I really like watching the young kids grow throughout the program and going from the the bottom up!

My swimming as a kid consisted of a team of 300+ swimmers in the bay area growing up. I came from a swimming family where my mother swam and trained with Mark Spits at the well known Santa Clara International swim center. I started swimming when I could barely walk. I started swimming on my USA team when I was about 6 years old. Throughout my swim career I made a JO level- a FAR W level-a SECTIONAL level and made CCS finals, top 8 all 4 years (CCS up north is like your CIF)

I grew up in a swim community where I was trained by Olympic swimmers that became trainers like Pablo Morales and more. I went on to swim college and taking some team, school, and college records along the way. At Leigh High School, San Jose State, USA records as well. Lastly I volunteer for Northern and Southern California’s NACC All Star team, festival and Western Zones. These meets are held in various states and various countries.

Most Memorable Swim Experience: Team trip and team picture to Hawaii. And all the countless fun all-star trips.

Most Memorable Coaching Experience: Puerto Vallarta All Star trip-It was an experience! Hot, different foods, different culture, pool 86 degrees, no warm down pool, no bathrooms for one day, horses dancing on deck!!!! WILD COACHING EXPERIENCE.

Biggest Influences: I have grown up around Olympians and swimmers my whole life, I would have to say my biggest influences are my Mother and my age group coach Gordy Smith.

Favorite Pre-Race Food: Night before-Pizza! Day of the meet-Gatorade only RED!

Favorite Pre-Race Song: That’s hard! I listened to A LOT of Rap coming from the Bay Area. So anything by Dr.Dre or Snoop

and all the old school legends but I always got pumped up for Metallica and rock as well.

I would consider myself a All around music fan.

Words of wisdom to young swimmers: THERE ARE A FEW-

You miss 100% of the shots you never take

PAIN BEAT REPEAT that’s the life of a swimmer

We bust ours to kick yours

Life is a grindstone, whether it grinds you down or polishes you depends on what you’re made of.

Whether you think you can....or you think you can’t....you are right.

Respectfully,

Coach Tyson Ormonde
