Short Course 2025/26 Practice Groups and Schedule
Red Practice Group - Primary Coach - Coach Amy
Season duration - September - February. Regionals, Age Group, National qualifiers may swim through mid March.
Practice requirements - 3 to 4 days a week
- The Red Group age range is between 6-10. Generally Red is a 10&under group.
- The swimmers need to have a solid foundation of freestyle and backstroke.
- They must have a basic foundation and understanding of butterfly and breaststroke.
- They will be required to swim two lengths continuously of freestyle and backstroke.
- They will be required to swim one length of butterfly and breaststroke.
- This group will also be required to swim a qualifying freestyle set established by their Lead Coach.
- Putting this all together.....the Red Team will have a focus of learning to swim all 4 strokes well and embracing their energy and love of the sport of competitive swimming.

White Practice Group - Primary Coach - TBD at the moment (currently all coaches)
Season duration - September - February. Regionals, Age Group, National qualifiers may swim through mid March.
Practice requirements - 4 to 5 days a week
- The White Group will generally be ages 9-12.
- The White group may include an 8 year old swimmer who has become proficient in his/her technique and developed an endurance level to be challenged within this group.
- The swimmer must have a solid foundation and knowledge of all four competitive strokes.
- The swimmer will be required to swim all 4 strokes legally and consistently perform swim sets established by the coaches.
- Stroke technique will be a huge priority.
- The swimmer will begin to learn and appreciate the different levels of competitive swimming.
- The swimmer will begin to understand and appreciate the skills of swimming sets and holding intervals.
- The swimmer will begin to understand their own personal goals and current times.

Blue Practice Group - Primary Coach - Coach Nancy and all other coaches assisting
Season duration - September - February. Regionals, Age Group, National qualifiers may swim through late March or early April.
Practice requirements - 4 to 6 days a week
- The Blue Group will generally be ages 9 - 13.
- The Blue Group may include an 9 year old swimmer that has reached a level with their technique and endurance that allows them to be challenged with this group
- These swimmers will be more advanced with their technical knowledge and will understand the different levels of competitive swimming. Stroke tech is a huge priority.
- They will consistently swim sets guided by interval training.
- They will have an understanding of the importance of good attendance.
- They will begin to understand their own personal goals. They will be responsible for knowing both their SC and LC times.
- The Blue swimmer will have reached the minimum of a personal regional cut as established by the IL Regional Time Standards.

Senior Practice Group 1 - Primary Coach - Coach Nancy and all other coaches assisting
Season duration - September - February.
(Senior 1 practice group will follow the Blue practice schedule)
Senior Practice Group 2 - Primary Coach(es) - Coach Nancy and Coach Mandy
Season duration - September - February. Regionals, Age Group, National qualifiers may swim through mid March.
Practice requirements - 4 to 6 days a week
- The Senior Group will generally be ages 13 and older.
- The swimmer must have a solid foundation and knowledge of all four competitive strokes.
- The swimmer will be expected to swim all 4 strokes legally and required to perform a variety of swim sets established by the coaches.
- Stroke, turn and break-out tech is highly focused on.
- The swimmer will have learned and appreciate the different levels of competitive swimming.
- The swimmer will be expected to know their SC & LC times and how those times relate to their personal goals and established time standards.
- The swimmer will have a strong understanding of multiple types of swim distances and sets. They will understand how those sets relate to their meet events. They will also be able to perform their swim sets independantly and understand how each part of their workout blends into the next.
- The Senior swimmers will act as appropriate role models for younger swimmers and their own peers.

Senior Elite Practice Group - Primary Coach(es) - Coach Nancy and Coach Mandy
Season duration - Late August - February. Regionals, Age Group, National qualifiers may swim through late March or early April.
Practice requirements - 5 to 6 days a week
- The Senior Elite group will generally be ages 13 or 14 and older.
- The Senior Elite group may include a 12 or 13 year old swimmer that has reached a level with their technique and endurance that allow them to be challenged within this group.
- Stroke, turn and break-out tech is highly focused on.
- The Senior Elite swimmer will have reached all of the Senior group requirements PLUS:
- The Senior Elite swimmer will be the more technically advanced swimmer and will have mastered all 4 strokes to a higher degree.
- The Senior Elite swimmer must hold a current Regional, State and/or National cut....or higher.
- The Senior Elite swimmer will have a strong understanding of the importance of consistent and strong attendance percentages.
- The Senior Elite swimmer will know all of their SC & LC current times and how they relate to Regional, State and National cuts.
- The Senior Elite swimmer will swim a variety of sets as established by their coaching staff and be able to lead a lane and hold the sets independantly.
- Each Senior Elite swimmer will understand how each piece of their swimming equipment and each Riptides swim drill relates to their swimming efficiency.
- The Senior Elite swimmer will always display appropriate role model behavior to the younger swimmers and their own peers
