Coach Kyle started coaching swimming in 2007 in Indiana where he grew up around South Bend. Kyle has coached swim clubs in Indiana, Michigan and now Illinois with Highland Park Aquatic Club. He brings with him knowledge and experience of coaching at all levels of swimming. From learn-to-swim lessons, newly competitive swimmers, state level swimmers, and swimmers at the National level.
From the age of 6, Kyle has had a long history in the sport of swimming. Growing up swimming for the Michiana Marlins he won several state titles in Age Group and Senior swimming for the IM and Backstroke events. He swam for Penn High School where he was a State Finalist all four years. After high school he went on to swim at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. There he swam the 400 IM, 200 IM, and 200 Backstroke.
Today Coach Kyle takes pride in building great people out of the sport of swimming. Swimming is a unique experience where you get to build a sense of team as well as self. Learning to excel at both is what he looks for when mentoring young athletes..
Coach Kyle is our Head Age Group Coach.
My name is Matt Nolan. I am originally from Washington, D.C., and moved to Chicago in 2023. I have loved swimming for my whole life. I began swimming competitively when I was five and never turned back. I swam for the DC Wave Swim Team as my USA Swimming Team, The PG Pool Killers Whales as my summer league team, and the School Without Walls Penguins as my high school team. I loved each of these programs, and my coaches there have shaped the coach I am today. I swan on the University of Pittsburgh club team my freshman year of college but switched to the spirit program, where I was a mascot and cheerleader for the rest of my time at Pitt. After spending some time in Pittsburg, I moved to Chicago to complete my Master's in Sports Administration at Northwestern.
I have been a coach at HPAC since 2023, and I coach the Little and Mini Giants. My goal is for every kid to be the best swimmer they can be while having as much fun as possible. My favorite events were distance freestyle and IM events, and I am a big believer that everyone is a distance swimmer at heart :)
Coach Matt is our Head Developmental Coach
Coach Sonny Tran's swimming/coaching journey began in 2014 when his eldest daughter started to swim competitively at a local YMCA. After attending the first couple of meets, Sonny decided that sitting in the bleachers was not for him. As a result, Sonny became a YMCA and USA Swimming certified official and when the team was looking for help at coaching, he joined the coaching staff.
Coach Sonny is passionate and dedicated to the sport of swimming. He likes to challenge his swimmers not only to be better in the water, but also better individuals outside of the pool. To Sonny, swimming is more than a physical sport, it is about discipline, dedication, team work, respect and leadership.
Coach Sonny and his wife, April, have 2 daughters, Kelly and Kailey who both swim for HPAC. Sonny and his family enjoy going on road trips, good food and outdoor activities.
Coach Sonny is Assistant Senior Coach.
Coach Dan Miller joins HPAC with a wealth of exerience coaching with New Trier & Scout Aquatics for many years. He is excited to help HPAC foster our age group swimmers into students of the sport.
Coach Dan is our lead coach for the Giants group.
Meet Coach Nicole, From Hoboken, New Jersey! With a love for swimming that started at age 8 (2006), She competed through college specializing in backstroke (best events being the 200 and 100 back). At 18 she moved to Chicago and swam varsity at Northwestern University from 2016 - 2020, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019. As a senior, she earned her first Division 1 NCAA qualification, but unfortunately, the competition was canceled due to the pandemic.
Starting her coaching career in the spring of 2024, she's excited to be back involved in the sport that shaped her into who she is today. She loves the sport of swimming for the team camaraderie and the thrill of seeing the swimmers go a best time in a race. You'll find her cheering very loudly for her swimmers and is excited to see some fast racing from HPAC at future meets.
Coach Allison is originally from Michigan and developed her passion for swimming at a young age. At age 10, she joined the Oakland Live Y'ers (OLY), a USA Swimming club team in Rochester, Mich. Her favorite events were breaststroke, individual medley (100 and 200 yards in both), and the 500-yard freestyle.
Allison was a member of Lake Orion High School's (LOHS) varsity swim team from 1998 to 2992. She held school records in breaststroke and various relays during her time on the team and contributed to multiple Michigan High School Athletic Association(MHSAA) Division III championship wins. Allison also was an alternate for the 200 medley relay (breaststroke) at the MHSAA championship meet.
During high school off-seasons. Allison swan for OLY before joining the Lake Orion Liquid Lightening club team, and then retiring from competitive swimming after graduation. She was a Liquid Lightening junior coach for a season while home from Michigan State University during summer break.
Allison moved to Highland Park with her family in July 2021. She began coaching HPAC's Mini and Little Giants in December 2021 after her daughter, Vale, joined the team for the fall season. Vale is now a Mighty Giant, and Allison continues to coach the Minis and Littles, his is one of her favorite activities every week.
Allison's goal is to share her enthusiasm for the sport with the HPAC kids and help them build their confidence and swimming skills through a growth mindset while also having fun. " You can do hard things" is her mantra.
Coach Melissa joins HPAC with a competitive swimming background and a desire to transition to coaching after she retires in a few short years. Coach Melissa will be primarily working with our Senior group swimmers as well as other groups on HPAC.
Coach Melissa is one of our Assistant Giants coaches.
