  • long-press an iCal link ▸ Copy
  • open Settings.app
  • tap Calendar ▸ Accounts ▸ Add Account ▸ Other ▸ Add Subscribed Calendar
  • paste the link ▸ Next ▸ Save

macOS instructions

  • right-click an iCal link, select Copy Link Address
  • launch Calendar.app
  • type key-combo ⌥ ⌘ S
  • paste the link

Notes
iOS: Adding Google calendars in "Accounts" will not sync them to your Mac
​MacOS: Saving to location "iCloud" will sync Google calendars to your devices without event alarms
