Where do you rank? IMX/IMR Information

IM Xtreme (IMX) and IM Ready (IMR) stand as flagship programs established by USA Swimming, aimed at inspiring young swimmers to expand their skill sets across diverse strokes and distances. Tailored to motivate swimmers, these programs encourage training and participation in a wide array of events. Beyond nurturing versatility, they offer a unique tracking system that enables USA Swimming members to monitor their performance against peers nationwide. This tracking feature not only fosters a sense of competition but also serves as a tool for improvement, empowering swimmers to refine their abilities across different swimming disciplines. Unlocking Swimming Achievement

To establish an IMX or IMR score, a swimmer must compete in all required events for their age group in a sanctioned meet during the current season. The IMX/IMR season spans from September 1 to August 31 for both short and long course competitions. It's essential to complete all events in the same course (SCY or LCM) to have a score in that specific course.

IMR

IMR, the first stage of the IMX Challenge, involves swimmers competing in a series of five events at shorter distances. Here's the lineup based on age groups:

  • 9 & Under, 10-year olds: 100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 IM (SC) or 200 IM (LC)
  • 11-year olds, 12-year olds:  200 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 IM (SC) or 200 IM (LC)
  • 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18-year olds: 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM

Completing each event at least once in an official meet allows swimmers to check their rankings against others in their club team via their Deck Pass Account. Completing the IMR program is not mandatory to participate in the IMX; it serves as a preparatory phase.

IMX

For swimmers ready to progress, IMX involves a series of five or six events at longer distances. Upon completing the IMX program, swimmers can determine their national, zone, LSC, and club rankings.

  • 9 & Under, 10-year olds: 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM
  • 11-year olds, 12-year olds: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM
  • 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18-year olds: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 400 IM

Scoring Points: The rankings in these programs are based on power points, utilizing a system developed by USA Swimming. The Power Points page provides more information and houses the Power Point Calculator.

Participation: Participating in IMR and IMX is hassle-free. USA Swimming automatically scores and calculates results for all athlete members. Swimmers only need to sign up for a Deck Pass Account and compete in each required event at a sanctioned meet at least once per season.

Swimmers have the option to print certificates displaying their IMR or IMX scores and can also choose to print their national, zone, LSC, and/or club rankings for their achievements.
