LCA is a parent run organization and we need all families to lend a helping hand!  We need help with club operations and events throughout the year. We offer volunteer rewards to families that commit time and donate items for events.

Volunteer Opportunities- Events

Training provided the day of the event, unless noted. Please review the job signup associated with the event for specific needs and to sign up. You're welcome to recruit family and friends to help! 

Event Job Descriptions 

Item donation- Vary by event; drop off time/location listed in job signup. 

Meet Set up/tear down- On deck prior to and after the meet; place timing pads in the water, set up chairs, etc. and puts away at the end of the meet. 

Head Timer- On deck for the duration of the meet; distributes and collects lane timing sheets, starts backup watches for each event-  in case timers miss a start 

Lane Timer- On deck for the duration of the meet; manually triggers the timing button, uses a stopwatch to capture a backup time and records the backup time on the lane timer sheet. (Mininum of 12 volunteers per meet)

Concessions- In the concessions area prior to and during the meet; Prep food, stock coolers, etc. prior to the start of the meet, sells food and beverage during the meet and helps cleanup at the end of the meet. 

Announcer- In the crow's nest for the duration of the meet; announces race information, race results and general information during the meet 

Runner/Awards- In the crow's nest or on deck for the duration of the meet; hangs heat sheets in pool area, distributes paperwork to coaches, officials, etc., collects information from lane timers, in case of a discrepancy or for verification, affixes stickers for ribbons and sorts them by swimmer/team. 

Computer Operator- In the crow's nest for the duration of the meet; requires prior training.  Works with the Admin or Referee to set up events, seed races, print meet documents, monitor race results, correct timing errors, score events and print stickers for awards. 

DAK Operator- In the crow's nest for the duration of the meet: requires prior training. Monitors timing system and reports issues, record and prints race results.

Volunteer Opportunities- Officials

Stroke & Turn (Technical) Official- On deck for meets; requires certification. Watch swimmers during an event to make sure they complete the stroke and turn based on the stroke requirements. After gaining experience, Stroke & Turn officials often pursue additional certifications such as Starter and Deck Referee. 

Administrative Official- In the crow's nest for meets; requires certification. Ensures all meet setup tasks are complete in the system, prints and distributes meet documents, monitors results, corrects errors, enters disqualifications, scores events,and resolves administrative issues. 

Official Certification Process

Please contact Victoria Coleman- [email protected] or the club president- [email protected], to start the process. LCA provides reimbursement for expenses incurred to complete certification and volunteer hours for training and officiating at meets. 

1. Become a non-athlete member of USA swimming- includes a background check

2. Attend a virtual or in-person training clinic 

3. Complete an online, open-book test 

4. Complete Safe Sport Athlete Protection and Concussion Protocol training online

5. Complete apprentice sessions at home or travel meets (mininum of 4 sessions for S&T and Admin)
