The Plymouth Sharks offers instruction, training and practice groups for competitive swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Plymouth Sharks to offer age specific instruction and training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
Bronze
Bronze swimmers learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming. Swimmers will learn proper technique for flutter kick, stroke techniques for freestyle & backstroke, and learn the mechanics for butterfly and breaststroke. Practices are one hour per day 2 days per week. In order to graduate to the Bonze Group, swimmers must be able to complete a 50 of freestyle and backstroke and a 25 of breaststroke and butterfly in practice. Bronze swimmers are encouraged to compete in all conference meets as well as Sharkfest. All other meets are optional and upon the recommendation of their coach.
Silver
Silver swimmers will focus on stroke mechanics, technique for all 4 strokes, and will begin working on endurance (more yardage per workout.) Swimmers will learn proper techniques for butterfly and breaststroke kicks, stroke techniques for breaststroke and butterfly, turn techniques, and block starts. In order to graduate, swimmers must be able to complete a 100 of freestyle and backstroke, a 50 of breaststroke and butterfly, and a 100 IM. Silver swimmers are encouraged to compete in all conference meets, Sharkfest, and one invitational. All other meets are optional and upon the recommendation of their coach
Gold +
Gold and up swimmers emphasize proper stroke and kick techniques for all 4 strokes. Swimmers will learn to use interval training and utilization of the pace clock as well as learn and implement race strategies for use at meets. A gradual progression of yardage is introduced. Higher level swimmers focus on higher levels of competitive swimming including obtaining multiple divisional, state, and junior national/national qualifying times. Practices are 2 hours up to 5 nights per week and swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend a minimum of 4 nights per week.
Senior
Seniors are those Sharks who have completed (at a minimum) their Freshman year in high school. These swimmers typically return in the summer and pre/post high school season to continue to represent the Sharks at conference meets, Sharkfest, and invitationals.
