Mike has been with Lakeside since 1988, and the Head Coach since 1994.  Under his guidance Lakeside has produced five US Olympic Team Members. Mike has been named the Kentucky Swimming Senior Coach of the Year fifteen times and twice named the ASCA Age Group Coach of the Year. He has placed swimmers on seventeen different USA National Teams and coached swimmers attending the Olympics, National Junior Team, Pan American Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, European Championships, South American Championships, Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Junior World Championships, Short Course World Championships and Long Course World Championships. Mike has been selected as the Head Coach of the 2007 National Junior Team, 2006 Pan Pacific Team, Head Coach of the 2006 SC World Championship Team, 2005 National Junior Team, the 2005 Regional Distance Camp, the 2002 and 2004 FINA USA World Cup Team, the 1995 USA Olympic Development Camp, the 1995 USA Girls Select Camp, Head Coach of the 2003 USA Boys Select Camp, Head Coach on four Kentucky All-Star Teams and coached three Kentucky Zone Teams. Mike has also spoken at a number coaches clinics including the Ohio LSC, Kentucky LSC, ASCA Mini-Clinic, USA Swimming Regional Clinics and the “Greatest Swim Clinic Ever”.

Nonie Paulson

Nonie began coaching with the SeaHawks in 1992. Before coming to the SeaHawks, she was the Aquatic Director and head Swim Coach at the Southeast Family YMCA here in Louisville. Nonie was member of the University of Louisville Swim Team. In 2014, with of the help of the athletic department and the NCAA, she was able to complete her college education and receive a diploma. She has been a Kentucky Zone team manager and coached on numerous Mid-States All-star teams. Nonie is the Team Administrator and coaches the Pre-Competitive and Developmental 2 groups. She is married to Scott Paulson and they have five children, three of whom are married. They have six grandchildren Hazel, Hudson, Eli, Caroline, Lizzy and Maeve.

Tom Coons

Assistant Coach

Coach Tom started running the Shelbyville site in 2015. He also coached Spencer County High School, Shelby County High School, Henry County High School and Collins High School Swim Teams as well as the Shelbyville Stingrays in the summer SFL League. Tom spent 25 years coaching in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas and was Lakeside’s Developmental and High School Group Coach from 1988 to 1990!  Tom continues to help coach Lakeside swimmers at the MTM site.

Tom likes to keep things simple: go to practice, work hard, race fast. Enjoy the journey.

As a coach, Tom has served on 12 different Zone, Mid-States and Select Camp staffs, as well as coached nine US Olympic Trial qualifiers and over 50 Junior and National Qualifiers. As an athlete, Tom swam for Lakeside for 15 years, going on to swim at the University of Louisville, where he was the MVP in 1989 and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration/Finance.

Nick Graves

Head Senior Coach

Nick joined Lakeside in the fall of 2021 after spending 10 years at Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta, Georgia. At Dynamo, Nick coached all levels of the program and served as the Head Age Group coach from 2015-2021. Nick swam collegiately at Florida State University and grew up in Lexington, Kentucky swimming for Wildcat Aquatics. Nick was coached by current Bellarmine Head Coach John Brucato.

Coach Nick has some roots here at Lakeside as his mom Terry Potts swam at Lakeside in the 60’s and 70’s.

Michael Casper

Age Group Elite Coach

Coach Casper joins Lakeside after serving 2 years at Triton Swimming as Age Group Performance coach.  Before that, he spent 5 years as the head coach of the Northeast YMCA Tsunami Swim Club.  He led the team to become the first YMCA in Louisville to join National YMCA Swimming and Diving.  He grew the team from 60 to 175 swimmers, one of whom was Louisville’s first ever YMCA Nationals qualifier. A Louisville native, he swam for Lakeside and St. Xavier High School. He has his Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville and worked in chemical dependency for 5 years before discovering his passion for coaching.  He is married and has two sons, ages 17 and 13. He loves cooking vegetarian cuisine and hiking the mountains of Colorado. His favorite strokes are freestyle and butterfly.  Coach Casper is ASCA Level 2 certified. Coach Casper was named a top 25 Age Group coach for the Large Team Division in 2025 by the American Swim Coaches Association.

Mimi Crush

Age Group Development Coach

Mimi has been coaching with Lakeside since 2013.

She was the National Team assistant with Mike DeBoor for three years from 2000 to 2002.

From Jackson, Mississippi, Mimi swam for the Sunkist Swim Team and went on to swim for Auburn University becoming a two-time National Champion in the 100 Fly and 200 Medley Relay. She was a member of an American record setting relay team and a member of the US National Team. Mimi met her husband, Chip Crush, a former Blairwood swimmer, while together at Auburn. The couple have four children - Annabel, Charlie, Johnny and Charlotte, all of whom swim forLakeside.

Nathan Smith

Senior II and Age Group Coach

Joining Lakeside in 2023, Coach Nathan is from Knoxville, TN where he grew up swimming for Pilot Aquatic Club (now TNAQ).  He swam for Division III powerhouse Kenyon College, inspiring him to start his coaching career.  Coach Nathan spent time at the NCAA DIII level coaching at DePauw University and Juniata College before moving into USA Swimming at Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club from 2019-2023.  He enjoys music, animals, the Smokey Mountains, and an illustrious acting career.  Coach Nathan was named a top 25 Age Group coach for the Large Team Division in 2025 by the American Swim Coaches Association and served as Head Coach of Team Kentucky at Age Group Zones.

Tracie Schannep

Tracie joined the Lakeside SeaHawks in the fall of 2017. She coaches the dryland practices for Age Group and coaches a Developmental group. Prior to coming to Lakeside, Tracie coached at Riverside Aquatics. She has also coached for Plainview and Floyd County’s summer teams. She teaches multiple programs at the YMCA. She is married to Jack and has four children: Tyler, Torie, Tarah and Madison. Outside of the pool deck, Tracie loves to garden, spend time with her chocolate Lab, Hollie, Mr. Milo the Australian Shepherd, and being grandma to the cutest grandson ever, Emmett.

Jennifer Boyle

National Team Assistant Coach

This is Jennifer’s fifth season with the Lakeside SeaHawks. Jennifer is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up she swam for University Swim Club and Notre Dame- Cathedral Latin School, and was USC’s first national qualifier and spent two years on the Lake Erie LSC board. She then went on to swim for the University of North Florida from 2001-2005 as a sprint freestyle and backstroker, and graduated with a degree in Health Psychology and Public Health. In 2007, she joined Cleveland State University’s coaching staff as assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams. Upon moving to Memphis, Tennessee in 2009, she became the assistant men’s and women’s coach at Rhodes College and coached with Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club. After stepping back from college coaching in 2011, she continued on with MTAC as the Senior A group assistant for five more years. Jennifer and her family relocated to Louisville in January of 2016. You may also see her at the gym as she is a group exercise instructor at several local health clubs. She is married to Kevin Boyle, and the couple have two daughters: McKenna and Riley.

Sarah Buckley

Developmental and Pre-Competitive Coach (Shelbyville)

Sarah Buckley has coached with the Lakeside Shelbyville site since 2016. She works with the precompetitive and developmental swimmers. Coach Sarah is a first-grade teacher at Eastern Elementary School in Henry County. She and her boys, Bo Kasten and Liam Buckley, live on a farm in Bethlehem. When not at the pool or school, she loves to garden and the outdoors. One of her favorite things about coaching beginning swimmers is how much they grow in a season as a swimmer.

Kyle Stephens

Strength and Conditioning Coach (Shelbyville)

Kyle is a strength and condtioning coach who promotes sports performance, injury prevention through muscular balance, and love of fitness by incorporating a wide variety of movement into his programming. He has been coaching poolside dryland at the Shelbyville branch of Lakeside since 2016, and last summer began coaching classes to improve swim performance at Bourbon Barrel CrossFit where is the owner. In his day job, Kyle works as a Licensed Behavior Analyst and brings the principles of ABA to his dryland training to increase athlete motivation, joy, and mental performance.

Ellie Masterson

Assistant Coach

Ellie began coaching Lakeside in Sepember of 2022. She is a Lakeside alum who started swimming for the SeaHaks when she was 6 years old. While at Lakeside, she was a National qualifier, team captain in teh 2017-2018 season, and state champion in the 200 Butterfly. After graduating fom Sacred Heart Academy, Ellie finished her career at the University of South Carolina, primarily competing in teh 400 IM, 200 IM, and 200 Breaststroke. She was a 4-time SEC tea member and SEC Finalist as well as a top 5 all-time performer in teh 400 IM in schol history. Ellie's favorite practice is an IM set and she loves to use her snorkel and fins. She loves trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends boating on the Ohio River, and cheering on the Louisville Cardins and South Carolina Gamecocks!

Sarah Love

Sarah has been coaching with Lakeside since 2021. She is from Louisville and is a proud Lakeside Seahawks alum, swimming with Lakeside from 2001-2013, coming back in the summers of 2014-2017 to train during summer break during college.

She swam sprint freestyle and short distance butterfly at Michigan State University. In 2014, she swam the 6th fastest time in School History in the 100 Free and was part of the then school record 200 Medley Relay. She has a degree in Packaging Engineering (no, not just manufacturing boxes).

Sarah has a puppy she’s obsessed with & loves to rollerblade with every day.

Cameron Bendetsen

Cameron Bendetsen

Senior Prep & Developmental Coach

Coach Cam comes to us with over 16 years as a competitive swimmer and over 9 years of coaching experience. Cam grew up swimming in California with the Santa Clara Swim Club and the Palo Alto Swim Club. As a coach, he has helped place kids on every level from Paralympic World Records to NCAA Champions to High School National Championships, Junior Nationals and Futures. Cam attended the University of Maryland and UCSB where he competed for both schools. Cam's coaching principle: "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care". Cam is a 3rd Level Sommelier by Court of Masters Sommelier, certified massage therapist, spent four years building a modeling career in Milan, and holds a degree in Political Science from UCSB. He enjoys traveling, cooking and being on deck coaching.
