Established in 1968, St. Joseph Aquatics has a long-standing tradition of talented and highly recognized professional coaches.

Tim Straub, Head Coach

Tim Straub started swimming competitively at the age of six, swimming for both SJA and the Berrien Hills Golf Club summer team. During his time as a student at Saint Joseph High School, he was a 4-year varsity swimmer, earning All-Conference honors for three of those years and All-State honors during his Junior and Senior years. After high school, he attended Hope College, where he also swam as a student-athlete.

Since 2014, Tim has led SJA as head coach. He is also the assistant coach of the Saint Joseph High School Girls Swim Team and the head coach of the SJHS Boys Swim Team.

Prior to SJA, Tim held coaching positions with the Bridgman Sea Bees Swim Club, Bridgman Boys High School Varsity Swim Team, and the Saint Joseph River Yacht Club.

Personally, Tim has three daughters, two who swim for SJA. He loves seeing them enjoy the pool and progress in the sport of swimming. He is also a talented Masters Swimmer and participates in open water swims when he can.

Hannah Shroeder, Asst. Coach

Hannah Larkins began swimming at the age of 6 in summer clubs in South Carolina, but did not competitively swim until high school. During her time at DeWitt High School she was a 4-year varsity swimmer, qualifying for the state meet all 4 years and earning All-Conference honors for 3 of those years. Her senior year of high school she earned Athelete of the Year in the Greater Lansing area. After high school she attended Alma College, where she studied biology and environmental science. During her swimming career at Alma College, she broke 6 school records, won the MIAA Championship Meet 100 yard breastroke event her senior year and earned both Academic and Swimming All Conference Honors all 4 years.

Hannah has been coaching at SJA since 2022, and was previously a swim coach, lifeguard instructor and swim lesson instructor at the Savannah, Georgia YMCA and DeWitt Area Swim Team.

Personally, Hannah enjoys swimming recreationally and enjoys training for triathalons. Her and her husband along with their black lab, Kenai, are avid hikers and enjoy exploring the outdoors and National Parks.

Logan Luhrsen, Asst. Coach

Coach Logan, was born and raised in Bridgman, Michigan. There he started swimming competitively at the age of 6 and didn’t stop until he graduated from Bridgman High School in 2003. He swam all 4 years for the Bridgman High School Men’s Swim Team and started coaching lessons at the High School Pool his senior year. He was instrumental in restarting the Sea Bees program in 2003 with only 10 swimmers at the time, and coached there until he joined the Army doing underwater construction. While in the Army he did tours in both Kuwait and Iraq. The coolest thing he’s done underwater is use a hydraulic powered chainsaw, and his personal record for an open water dive is 184 feet!

In 2011 Coach Logan came back to coaching the Sea Bees, and began coaching as an Assistant Coach for the Bridgman Women’s High School Swim Team. He became the Head High School Men’s Coach in 2014. He came back to coaching in 2021 to assist coaching for our SJA. Starting his 3rd year for SJA he is very happy coaching for SJA and cannot wait to see what the next season will bring.

Morgan Altergott, Asst. Coach

Coach Morgan is coming on to coach at SJA to create a fun and engaging atmosphere. As an assistant coach for the SJHS swim teams and the head coach of the St. Joseph Yacht Club Swim Team, Coach Morgan hopes to create a culture where kids want to continue their swimming careers throughout high school. She really believes the sport of swimming can change your life, and she hopes to share with each swimmer her passion for the sport.

Outside of swimming, she is also a math teacher at SJHS. She enjoys volunteering at all SJ school/community events. Becoming a Bear in the last few years has filled her with a ton of pride, and she is  honored to be a part of such an amazing community. She is really looking forward to working with the swimmers this season and helping them see the joy swimming can bring!
