Lori May - Head Coach - Lori began coaching the Manta Rays in 2017. She began competitive swimming at the age of nine and continued to swim all the way through her college career at the College of Wooster. At Wooster she specialized in middle distance freestyle and was named to the collegiate All-American swim team multiple times. Lori's previous coaching experience includes both age-group and high school, including the Euclid Age-Group Swim Team, Gilmour Age-Group Swim Team and Gilmour Academy High School Team. Lori lives in Macedonia with her husband Ross and her two children, who both swim for the Manta Rays. In her spare time, Lor and her entire family enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, biking, camping and spending time with their crazy dog Zara.
Amanda Boswell - Amanda began competitive swimming in third grade after her gym teacher noticed talent in the sport during their swimming session. Her parents started her with the Cuyahoga Falls Tigersharks shortly after, which is where she swam until high school began. Amanda swam for Hudson High School but just before her senior year she sustained a back injury that only allowed her to swim two races the entire season. After a short break from the pool, Amanda realized how much she missed the sport, and began coaching and teaching swim lessons through college. Following graduation from Miami University, Amanda became the head coach for the LifeCenter Plus Stingrays, coached at Kenston High School, HEAT, and Hoban High School. Amanda also has a background in Sports Psychology and personal training and draws on education from both while coaching practices. When not at the pool, Amanda loves to spend time with her dog Zaxby, travel to Arizona, train for her yearly half-marathon, and spend time with family and friends.
Steve VanderSchie - As a young child, Steve was afraid of the water and never left the shallow end of the pool. It wasn't until he joined his very first swim team, the Alpena Aquacats, at age ten that he began to gain confidence. This began a very long swimming career as he swam through age-group, high school and collegiately. In high school, Steve was selected to the NISCA All-American swim team and continued his swimming career at Eastern Michigan University. After college, he was named head coach of the Chelsea Aquatic Club. Seeking a Master's Degree from Kent State University, he made a return to Northeast Ohio and served as head coach at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, later head coach at Hudson High School and the head coach of the HEAT program. Steve left the swimming environment for over a decade to concentrate on raising a family with his wife DeAnna. He then returned to coach swimming when his son, Gavin, took an interest in the sport and joined the Manta Ray staff in 2018. Steve currently works at Hudson Middle School as a sixth grade Social Studies teacher.
Sydney McIntyre - Coach Sydney graduated from Nordonia High School in 2021. She swam for the high school team where she specialized in Butterfly and IM. She also spent a few years swimming for the Manta Rays program before she joined the coaching staff in 2019. Sydney brings her knowledge in technique training and practice design to the program. She currently attends Kent State University and is working towards her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. When Sydney is not at the pool, you can find her camping or walking her dogs.
Brad Anderson - Brad has been around competitive swimming his entire life. He swam YMCA/USA beginning at age six, and was a four year varsity swimmer at Trinity High School. He taught swim lessons during his undergraduate and graduate years at Ohio University and the University of Toledo. Most recently, he has coached the Eaton Eeels summer team for the past seven years. Whether teaching his 4th and 5th graders in his intervention specialist position in Orange Schools or coaching kid's in the pool, he believes strongly in building children's self-confidence and mental stamina while having fun doing it.
Aloys Heinrichs - Swimming started at a very early age, failing a level of swim lessons but loving the water, Aloys' mom signed her and her twin sister, Meghann, up for the Richmond Heights Sharks. Barely being able to make it across the pool legally, they learned very quickly that swimming was going to be a big part of their lives. When recreational summer swimming was completed for the season, they swam for the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins (LESD) for many years before transitioning to the North Coast Aqua Ducks. Aloys swam for Richmond Heights High School all 4 years while maintaining involvement in USA swimming, as her high school did not have a pool. She was also a member of The Ohio State University Master’s Team. Growing up, Aloys coached a small swim team at Mayfair Country Club and taught swim lessons at many different pools (and was also a lifeguard). When approached to coach with the Manta Rays, she was excited to be a bigger part of her own family’s swimming experience. Aloys' daughter, Ellis, son, Graham, nephew, Sullivan, and niece, Mallory, are all Manta Rays. Her mom was a huge influence on her swimming career, serving as the Co-President of the Richmond Heights Sharks and she hopes to carry that with her in this experience. She is proud of each individual accomplishment in swimmers and how that impacts the better part of a team. She feels everyone can have so much fun in this competitive environment! Some of her lifelong friends are from swim teams! If not at the pool, Aloys' and her family are likely on a softball/baseball field or spending time with family and friends!
