SENIORS (Ages 13-18)

Broadway Breakthroughs
Open Level: Tuesday 7:30pm - 9pm
 
In this class, students will develop the three disciplines of Musical Theatre through studying scenes. Vocally, they will work on technique through proper breathing and sound production. They will also learn fundamental musical theatre dance steps with an emphasis on execution and formations. Scene work will delve into character development and physicalization. The semester will culminate in musical theatre scenes, songs, and dances!
 
Musical Theatre Dance
Teen Beginner: Wednesdays 7:45pm - 8:45pm
Level 5: Wednesdays 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Level 6:  Wednesdays 5:30pm - 6:45pm
Advanced:  Wednesdays 8pm - 9:30pm
 
In the beginning levels, our Musical Theatre Dance classes focus on core concepts, terminology and steps used in musical theatre jazz as well as developing base technique in alignment, placement and preparation for larger steps. In the intermediate levels, students will place a larger focus on style from a variety of musical theatre choreographic styles: classic, golden age, and contemporary genres. They will begin to develop increased balance and flexibility, as well as turns, leaps, jumps and kicks. Throughout all musical theatre dance classes, students will develop the ability to tell complex and engaging stories through dance.
 
Ballet

Advanced: Mondays 8pm - 9:15pm
 
GCPA ballet is the perfect class for theatre performers looking to develop a strong ballet foundation. Fundamental ballet technique with terminology, positions, and musicality in performance.  
 
Tap
Teen Beginner: Wednesdays 6:45pm - 7:45pm

Leveled tap technique focusing on musical theatre tap vocabulary, steps and presentation. Through warm ups, students will learn to articulate the feet in basic rhythms and patterns. Progression and combinations will teach basic tap steps that are common in the musical theatre tap vocabulary with a strong focus on body position and posture.
 
Jazz Funk
Teen Beginner: Tuesdays 5pm - 6pm
 
Jazz is a broad dance form taking on many styles! Students will learn classic jazz technique through a series of warm-ups, progressions and conditioning exercises and put those skills into practice through across the floor and center combinations of a variety of jazz styles, including classic, contemporary, commercial, and lyrical.

Modern

Modern technique incorporates individual creativity and expression with physical alignment and body awareness. Centered on Horton Technique, students will develop vocabulary and movement quality that will enhance and strengthen their overall understanding of artistic, physical movement.
 
NEW! Acro
Open Level: Wednesdays 6pm - 7pm
 
Acro is a seamless blend and flow of both dance styles and acrobatic movement. Students focus  on  flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling. Students will be taught proper alignment in order to safely move through their full range of motion. Each individual student's level of experience and comfortability are catered to when advancing and learning new skills. Progressions are utilized as stepping stones to advance and grow in each individual student's skills to help them reach their goals safely.
 
Leaps & Turns
Open Level: Mondays 7pm - 8pm
 
Leaps and turns are some of the most exciting technical elements in dance! In this class, students will hone and expand their skills, focusing on leaps and turns from both Jazz and Ballet techniques. A structured warm up will focus on technique (working through lateral and bi-lateral stretch, lunges, Pliés, center barre, and stretching). Students will approach skills on a step by step basis, starting with the preperation, attacking the step and landing. In center, students will work through pirouettes, stationary jumps, progressions across the floor, and more. Additionally, this class features an individualized focus on skills to meet students of all levels Intermediate and above.
 
Stretch & Strengthen
Open Level: Saturdays 9am - 10am
 
This class is perfect for students looking to safely increase flexibility and strength for their dance training. This is a registration based class that is open to walk-ins from students in level 5+, including industry walk-ins. A perfect warm up for YTC rehearsals!
 
Acting

Acting is more than just memorizing lines.  It is using the knowledge we have about human psyche and behavior to make words on a page come to life. In this class, students will begin learning how to dissect a script and understand the importance of specific vocal and physical choices in the telling of a story.
 
On The Spot! Improv
Open Level: Wednesdays 6pm - 7pm
Intermediate / Advanced: Saturdays 12pm - 1:30pm
 
Looking for laughs? This class is a hysterical and fun way to develop your scriptless acting skills. Through games and fast paced activities, students will learn the basics of improvised comedy and how to tell a story - On The Spot!
 
Film Acting Technique
Open Level: Saturdays 11am - 12pm
 
Interested in a career on the screen? This class will help you develop skills for a successful entry into film acting. Students will learn the differences between film and stage acting, how to prepare off screen, how to explore goals and tactics with multiple takes, and record short scenes for the camera. This class culminates in a short film developed by the class participants so that students can experience the collaborative and connective nature of film.
 
NEW! GLEE-CPA!
Advanced Beginner / Intermediate: Thursdays 7pm - 8pm
 
This class is GCPA's take on the classic Glee Club! This class will teach students the skills of harmonizing, ensemble singing techniques, light music reading, blending, style, and group expression. This class is great for students that want to learn to sing more effectively as part of an ensemble, or even just to have a community in which to use their singing skills! Students will learn multiple songs to perform at the end of the semester for their Final Demonstration. Come Glee with us! 
 
Musical Theatre Voice
Teen Beginner: Tuesdays 6pm - 7pm
Level 5/6: Mondays 7pm - 8pm
 
Learn the fundamentals of good vocal technique including best practices for breathing, diction, and posture. Develop your music reading abilities as well as improve your ear training. Students will apply the technique they learn to songs in the musical theatre repertoire, also practicing good choral techniques including blending and harmony. 
 
Audition Prep
Open Level: Mondays 6pm - 7pm
 
Getting ready to audition for your big break? Rocking that audition starts long before you sing your first note. This class will help you prepare everything from what to bring, what to wear and how to best prepare so you can be in control of YOU even in stressful audition situations! Class time will also be spent developing audition cuts, learning how to be successful in a dance audition, and developing callback technique for cold reads and song cuts. It will leave you feeling prepared and excited for school, community, and even GCPA's Youth Theatre Company auditions!
 
Viewpoints
Advanced, Invitation Only: Saturdays 3:30pm - 5pm
 
Formalized by Anne Bogart, Viewpoints is a philosophy that focuses on the natural principles of movement, time, and space. It is a technique for training performers, building ensemble, and creating movement for the stage. This class will follow Bogart's design in exploring how our bodies inhabit and move through space. By the end of the class, actors will have a heightened sense of awareness of self, others, and our natural instincts. This class will be taught by GCPA founder and Executive Director, Paul Pagano, who trained in this technique under Anne Bogart herself.
