Athlete Safety and Conduct  Guidelines

  1. All NBAC swimmers should be dropped off at the right side ( when facing the athletic building) of the athletic building at the walkway back to the pool. 
  2. No swimmers should be dropped off earlier than 20 minutes prior to the start of your practice.
  3. Swimmers must be accompanied by an adult to the entrance of the pool.
  4. All swimmers are limited to the pool deck and locker rooms (to change or go to the bathroom only) once they have arrived at the pool.  Walking/running around other parts of the building is prohibited.  Anything outside is allowed only if accompanied by an adult.
  5. Per USA Swimming / NBAC Rules:  No parents are allowed on the pool deck…at any time.  Swimmers Only!
  6. Parents may observe practice from the balcony area.  Please do not lean on or over the railing to observe practices.
  7. Swimmers bags must be placed on the benches or against the walls.  Bags are not allowed in walkways.
  8. Running is never permitted in the building or on the pool deck.
  9. Swimmers should not enter the water unless directed to do so by the coaching staff.  In addition, swimmers should exit the pool when told to do so.
  10. At the conclusion of practice, please change as quickly as possible in order to get home as soon as possible.
  11. Swimmers should be picked up promptly at the conclusion of each practice.
  12. Swimmers must be escorted by an adult, at the conclusion of practice, to the parking lot.  If an adult has not arrived then the swimmer must stay in the pool area until a parent escorts that swimmer to the parking lot.
  13. Parents, please be at the pool at the conclusion of practice for pickup.  Coaches will wait until the last swimmer has left the building.

NBAC Safe Practices Procedures for all Facilities

Winter Indoor Swim Season

  • Coaches shall be on site 30 minutes prior to the beginning of practice.
  • Coaches will remain on the pool deck at the conclusion of practice until all swimmers have completely exited the water and left the pool deck.
  • Coach(es) shall remain at or in the facility until all athletes have exited. Likewise, coaches should remain at the facility until all athletes are picked up by a parent(s)/guardian(s).
  • Parents - We will ask for your total support with this effort. Please do not allow  your swimmer to arrive at practice more than 20 minutes BEFORE practice begins  and please pick up your children no more than 20 minutes after practice concludes.
  • Coaches shall follow the directions of lifeguards and management at all facilities.
  • Coaches will not allow the use of facilities or equipment outside our rental agreement(s)
  • During training, no swimmer shall kick underwater for longer than 25 Meters (82.02 feet). Furthermore, underwater kicking shall only be done under the supervision of a certified coach with a lifeguard present.
  • At the Meadowbrook facility, practice may only take place when 1 lifeguard (who is not a coach) is present per 25 yard/meter course being utilized.

Goucher College Policies and Safety Guidelines

Goucher College

  • Parents shall drop off their children at the upper parking lot near the pool and observe that they enter the building.
  • At the conclusion of practice at Goucher, athletes shall:
    • Exit the pool
    • Change / dress / use the locker room
    • Leave the pool building with a parent/guardian witnessed by a coach.
  • Coaches shall remain at the facility until all athletes have been picked up by a parent/guardian.

Safety and Conduct Guidelines  HP and CH 1

Arrival:

  •  Change into Suit before practice in the locker-room.  No deck changing allowed!!
  • Grab green mat and do pre-practice Keenan stretching and mobility exercises
  • Look at Workout
  • Get Equipment Bags and all other equipment needed for workout
  • Put swim bags/school bags/clothes in the back corner of the indoor pool by the pace clocks.  Do not pile on top of equipment bins.
  • Do not wander around the facility
  • Do not arrive more than 30 minutes before workout without permission

Swim Practice:

  • Work Hard
  • Work Smart
  • Don’t take short cuts
  • Have fun
  • Encourage and Support each other
  • Have all training equipment+caps/replace as soon as its broken or lost 

Post Swim Practice:

  • Change into Dryland clothes in locker-room  No deck changing allowed!!!
  • Throw away used workouts and refill water bottles
  • Put equipment bags away in closet. Do not leave outside closet.
  • Take no more than 10 minutes to get to drylands after practice

Dryland:

  • Listen to Coaches
  • No Horseplay
  • Follow all Coaches’ Guidelines to a “T”
  • Put all dryland equipment away before leaving
  • Throw away all used water bottles

Post Drylands:

 Leave Facility within 15 minutes of workout concluding

Locker Room/Facility Conduct

  • Respect the members’ space
  • Do not be loud and obnoxious
  • Throw away all Garbage
  • Do not touch any other members or swimmers
  • Do not touch any other members or swimmers belongings
  • Follow all NBAC Guidelines/Code of Conduct on behaviors relating to physical contact as well as Harassment and Bullying.  The Code of Conduct will be strictly enforced.
  • Do not vandalize/damage/soil locker-room or facility/If an accident occurs, please inform coach and general manager immediately

General Behavior

This is a place where common individuals come together to achieve uncommon things.  Individuals agree to follow a disciplined pursuit of excellence. Any verbal or physical behavior that takes away or impacts this negatively will not be tolerated.  Respect the facility, respect each other and respect the mission.

Safety & Conduct Guidelines - CH 2 and 3

Upon arrival:

  • Do not arrive more than 30 minutes before practice without permission.
  • Change into your swimsuit in the locker room before dryland.  No deck changing allowed!!
  • Grab a mat and do pre-practice stretching and mobility exercises.
  • Place swim bags / school bags / clothes out of the way and alongside the benches at the shallow end of the indoor pool deck.  Do not leave bags in the locker room.
  • Stay on the pool deck or in the lobby.  Do not wander around the facility.

Dryland:

  • Have your workout clothes and shoes on before dryland begins.
  • Listen.  Pay attention.  Be safe with equipment.
  • Be aware of your teammates and surroundings at all times.  Do not play around or be careless.
  • Put away all equipment before leaving the dryland area.
  • Throw away all trash (empty water / drink bottles, snack wrappers, etc).

Swim practice:

  • Be on the deck at least five minutes prior to our entry in the water.
  • Get your cap and goggles on before warm-up begins.  Have your equipment with you, ready & available.
  • Be aware of your teammates and surroundings at all times.  Do not play around or be careless.
  • Always have water and / or a sports drink for every practice.

At the end of swim practice:

  • Exit the water immediately.
  • Throw away all trash.
  • Take all of your equipment with you.  Replace any equipment you may have borrowed in its proper bin / place.
  • Go immediately to the locker room to change.  No deck changing allowed!!!

Locker Room / Facility Conduct:

  • Be in and out of the locker room in ten minutes or less.
  • Respect the members’ space.
  • Do not be loud or offensive (language, behavior, etc.).
  • Throw away all trash.
  • Do not touch members or teammates.
  • Do not touch members’ belongings.
  • Do not borrow or touch teammates’ belongings without their permission.
  • Follow all NBAC Guidelines / Code of Conduct on behaviors relating to physical contact as well as harassment and bullying.
  • Do not vandalize, damage, or soil the locker room or any other part of the facility.
  • If an accident should occur, please inform a coach and a Meadowbrook manager immediately.

Departure:

  • Your ride, whether your parent or a teammate’s parent [carpool], should be at Meadowbrook within fifteen minutes of the scheduled conclusion of practice (exception: practice shortened due to inclement weather).
  • At night, always wait for your ride at Meadowbrook.  Do not wander off the property without being accompanied by a parent or a teammate’s parent.
