Tom Himes Head Coach

 

Tom Himes has more than four decades of coaching experience. He first joined NBAC in 1985. He spent 17 years with the team as the Head Age Group Coach helping to produce 11 consecutive American Swimming Coaches Association Age Group National Team Championships. He briefly left in 2002, and in 2009 he returned to NBAC to become an age group coach. In December of 2010 he took over once again as the Head Age Group Coach. In the fall of 2016, Coach Tom was named NBAC's Head Coach. Throughout his career, he has coached swimmers to 425 National Top 16 rankings, including 74 number one rankings, 37 National Age Group Records and more than 350 Maryland State Records.

Coach Himes has also played a key role as age group coach for several Olympians, most notably Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps and Beth Botsford. In addition to these two, he has produced countless other National Team Athletes. The Maryland Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year award was renamed for Coach Himes to honor his more than 20 years of service to Maryland Swimming. He was inducted into the Maryland Swimming Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2015, the American Swimming Coaches Association honored him with the National Age Group Coach of the Year award, an award he has received several nominations for.

Paul Yetter Head Senior Coach

Paul Yetter became NBAC’s Head Senior Coach in November 2016. Prior to the Fall of 2016, Paul was the Head Coach of T2 Aquatics (Naples, FL 2010-2016), an Assistant Coach at Auburn University (Auburn, AL 2009-2010), NBAC’s Head Senior Coach (2004-2009), and NBAC’s Harford Site Lead Coach (2002-2004). During the 2001-2002 season, Paul gained experience assisting National Coach of the Year Bob Bowman with a variety of NBAC’s training groups.

A 7-time member of USA Swimming’s National Team Coaching Staff, Paul has represented the USA as an Assistant Coach at the 2008 Olympic Games, the 2007 Japan Open, the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships, and the 2005 World Championships. Additionally, Paul has served as the Head Women’s Coach of the 2007 Pan American Games, and most recently as the Head Men’s Coach for the USA’s Youth World Championship Team at the 2013 Youth World Championships in Dubai, U.E.

Coach Yetter's athletes have represented the USA in every major International Competition, winning medals at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championships, Pac Pacific Championships, World University Games, Pan American Games, Junior Pan Pacific Championships, and the FINA World Youth Championships.

Yetter was Katie Hoff’s coach when she set a LCM World Record in the 400 IM in 2007, and then again in 2008. 

Since 2003, Yetter has guided 12 different athletes to a No. 1 US National Age Group ranking, setting over 75 US National Age Group Records in the process.

For his efforts in coaching, Yetter was named the 2007 USA Swimming Developmental Coach of the Year as well as the 2007 United States Olympic Committee Developmental Coach of the Year for all Olympic Sports.

Kathryn Violette Senior Coach

Coach Kathryn has been an NBAC Senior Coach since 2016, working with High Performance, Challenge 1 and Challenge 2 training groups. In addition to her roles assisting and leading these training groups, Kathryn leads the Strength & Conditioning component for all NBAC Senior athletes.

Kathryn’s guidance has been instrumental in improving NBAC’s upper-teir Challenge training groups. She has coach several Sectional, Futures and Junior National qualifiers.

During the 2018-2019 Short Course season, Kathryn designed and implemented a training plan that guided 4 Challenge 1 athletes to individual Maryland State LSC Championships.

A native of Westbrook, Maine, Kathryn graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2014 with a B.S. in Dietetics and a Minor in Psychology. As a Student-Athlete at UNH, Kathryn was part of two America East Conference Championship teams and was voted to serve as UNH’s Team Captain. 

In addition to her role as an NBAC coach, Kathryn is a Registered Dietitian (RD), a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN), and is currently working toward certification to become a CSSD (Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics). NBAC athletes have benefited from working informally and formally with Kathryn on their nutrition, fueling, and recovery goals; contact her directly at [email protected] to set up a formal nutrition session.

Brian Horan Age Group Coach


Coach Brian’s swimming career began when he was just 6-years-old. He swam for Cheltenham Aquatic Club (CAC) outside Philadelphia. He grew up in their program and during college began coaching for CAC. He spent two years with the club before moving to Baltimore. 

In 2008, Coach Brian became a swim instructor with the Michael Phelps Swim School and began coaching NBAC’s stroke clinic. In 2013, he began coaching our age group swimmers. Today, he oversees our Discovery 2, and Imagination 2 & 4 groups.

In addition to his NBAC coaching responsibilities, he managed and coached the summer swim team at Otterbein Swim Club from 2008-2013. When he can, he continues to assist that club with swim meets.

Coach Brian is a proud Towson University Tiger, graduating in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Charles Nyasae Age Group Coach


Coach Charles has been with NBAC since 2017, coaching everything from Explorers and Discovery to Imagination and Challenge. Currently, Coach Charles works with our Challenge and Discovery groups. He is a big proponent of swimmer development and technique, analyzing and breaking down races with swimmers to help them improve.

In 2014, Charles headed up his first Developmental Swim Team, helping young swimmers learn proper stroke techniques. His desire to teach and grow as a coach has continued to flourish and he is looking forward to helping young swimmers progress to the next level.

He is no stranger to the sport having attended and swimming his collegiate career at Goucher College. He graduated from the school in 2006 with a major in Economics.
