The swim year is divided into two seasons:

• The winter, or 'short course' (SC) season runs from mid-September to mid-March, culminating in the Montana State Short Course Championships. Short course meets are held in 25-yard pools like the Grizzly Pool. Typically, MAC hosts two short course meets each year - one in November and another in either January or the State Short Course Championships.

• The summer, or 'long course' (LC) season runs from April to mid-August. Meets are generally held outside in 50 meter pools (Olympic size) like the Lake Pool at Splash Montana. MAC hosts one long course meet each summer, the Firecracker Classic in late June. The Montana State Long Course Championship Meet is generally held at the Bozeman High School's indoor 50 meter pool.
