Wingate Aquatics Swim Lessons

Here at Wingate University we believe that water safety is extremely important. Lessons are available for children 4 years of age to 17 years of age. We offer both private and group lessons.

Group Lessons:

  • Your child's safety is our primary concern
  • Child to instructor ratio of 5 to 1 or better
  • 5 different levels of ability to accomodate swimmers of any ability
  • Lessons for children 4 to 17
     

Private Lessons:

  • Your child's safety is our primary concern
  • Offers one-on-one instruction
  • Flexibilty in schedule
  • Can choose class length of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or an hour
     

Ability Levels:

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills - This class is the beginner level where each swimmer is taught basic swimming skills and water safety. Swimmers will learn how to float on both their front and back as well as how to properly breath and blow bubbles.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills - This class starts to implement the arms and the legs into swimming motion. Each swimmer will learn how to use both arms and legs while swimming on both their front and their back.

Level 3: Stroke Development - This class emphasizes breathing patterns and specific stroke technique for both the front crawl (freestyle) and backstroke. Swimmers will learn how to swim both strokes properly and effectively for at least 1 length of the pool.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement - This class introduces the breastroke and dives. Swimmers will continue to improve their freestyle and backstroke while also learning proper technique for breastroke. Swimmers will also begin to dive from the side of the pool and the starting blocks.

Level 5: Stroke Refinement - This class introduces the butterfly stroke and works on overall swimming endurance. Swimmers will continue to master their dives and begin to learn flip turns.
