New England Swimming has decided to adopt a technical suit policy for all 10 and Under swimmers. As you all know, we have been pretty restrictive over which suits 10 and Unders are allowed to wear and do believe strongly in making sure our swimmers are wearing suits that are appropriate for their age/ ability level. As our mid-season meets approach, we will send additional information about our team technical suit policy but I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the new NE Swimming policy. Lori was named the 2017 New England Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year. This award is given based upon voting from all NE Swimming coaches. It really does recognize the accomplishments and character of all Phoenix Swimming members, so congratulations everyone!! Congratulations to both Jack Carignan and Jack Warden for being named to the 2017 Scholastic All-American Swim Team. Details can be seen by clicking on the SAA page on USA Swimming's website. In order to apply to be named to the Scholastic All-American Team, swimmers must have a 3.5 GPA or above and achieve a time equivalent to a Winter Junior Nationals qualifying time. Way to go Jack and Jack!!
We would like to congratulate and recognize the following swimmers for being Top 10 in an individual event for their age group (9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, Open) or being on Overall Outstanding Swimmer for their Age Group either during the 2016-2017 Short Course Season (SCY) or the 2017 Long Course Season (LCM). Phoenix Swimming has been chosen, based upon results over the past 2 years, as one of the 45 best Age Group programs in the country! As such, we are invited to attend the Bi-Annual National Age Group Summit held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO from November 3rd-6th. Phoenix swimmer, Douglas Browning (13- in Junior Group), finished 3rd for the 19 and Under Age Group this morning at the Wallis Sands Triathlon in Rye, NH. It was his first triathlon. He completed a 750 yard ocean swim (in very rough surf), a 14.5 mile bike, and a 5k run. He finished first for the swim portion of the race for his age group (19 and Under) and 9th overall in the swim. Congratulations Douglas!!
The USA Swimming year runs from September 1st thru August 31st, so just recently all the National times, rankings and IMX scores have been updated. For the second time in a year PHX Swimming wins NE 15-18 Champs! PHX Swimmers did not disappoint in their quest to win back to back NE 15-18 Champs this summer! In fact, we crushed the competition finishing with 1483 points more than doubling up the second place team who had 726 points! The meet was held at the relatively new Sterling Center in Beverly, MA and although it was a short meet it was a fast one - with most swimmers achieving mostly best times throughout the weekend.
