When is the next tryout opportunity?
Please sign up for a tryout HERE! Tryouts for the Fall/Winter Season will be held 8/19-8/21 and 9/2-9/4 from 5-7pm at the Church St WSY Big Pool. All tryouts will consist of a half hour session and we will ask swimmers to attempt all four competition strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as a flip turn and a dive. These skills do not need to be perfect to join the team, we just want to see your athlete's best effort!
At the end of the tryout, you will receive information on your athlete's practice group if they make the team, as well as registration and pricing information. You will also have time to ask any questions about the team in person at the conclusion of the tryout.

What are the dates for the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Season?
The Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Season will begin on September 8, 2025 and end on March 22, 2026.
What is the registration process?
For the Fall/Winter Season, new athletes will be required to participate in a tryout to determine where on the team they will fit best. At the tryout you will receive information on your athlete's practice group if they make the team, as well as registration and pricing information.
If your athlete was on the Blue Waves Swim Team within the past year, you will receive an email directly about registration for the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Season.
All Blue Waves athletes MUST be members of the West Suburban YMCA. After registering for the team, you will also receive an online form to complete that includes Emergency Contact Information and Important Medical Information.
How much does it cost to join Blue Waves?
Price will vary based on which Practice Group your athlete is assigned to. Please see price information HERE. Families will have the option to pay monthly or for the entire season at once. If your family would benefit from financial aid assistance, please email [email protected].
Additionally, all Blue Waves athletes MUST be members of the West Suburban YMCA. Membership information can be found HERE and our staff at the Welcome Center will be happy to answer any questions regarding WSY membership.
If your athlete participates in Swim Meets, there may be additional Meet Fees depending on the competition.
Does my swimmer have to participate in Swim Meets?
We strongly recommend participation in meets, but it is not required. Swimming is a competitive sport and meet participation encourages goal setting, personal improvment, and showcases to the athletes that hard work pays off. If you are only interested in participating in YMCA meets, no further action is required after registration. If your athlete is looking for a more competitive experience with more meet opportunities, we recommend obtaining a USA Swimming Membership as well. This is a yearly membership with an annual fee that allows swimmers to participate in both YMCA sanctioned meets and USA sanctioned meets. For the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Season, we will also have a Parent/Guardian Team Meeting on Monday, September 22, 2025 to go over meet participation in detail. Please save the date!
