If you haven't already, please fill out this Google Form which helps keep all our information organized, up-to-date, and allows us to contact you about upcoming classes and officiating opportunities.
Why Become an Official?
1. Free food and drinks.
2. Special parking, when offered.
3. Interaction with other officials with varying levels of experience.
4. You can easily keep in contact with your swimmer.
5. Higher volunteer points for hosted meets by GSCY.
6. We cannot run meets without officials!

How to Become an Official
Begin by finding a training class at a YMCA near you. YMCA training classes will certify you to become a YMCA official and a USA official if you choose. Here are the current offerings. In addition, they are also sent out to GSCY officials who have filled out the google form above.
Once you have taken your course and completed the necessary requirements, you can sign up to officiate. After shadowing an experienced official for a few sessions, you'll be ready to work independently. You must work the prescribed number of sessions to fulfill your certification requirements and stay active for the following season.

Volunteering as a GSCY Official
As with our other volunteer positions, officiating opportunities will be posted, and sign-ups will be in the portal during the announced window.
- The portal will have a limited amount of spots available for officials, as it does for other positions. The number of slots available will be determined by the number of officials needed to run the meet and capacity limitations.
- Once an official has committed to the portal and the portal closes, it is the official’s responsibility to work or find a replacement. If you have found a replacement after the portal has closed, please notify our volunteer coordinator, Chris Kay, at [email protected], so that he can make the change.
